Have any of you made a DIY poncho?

Today's blog posting got me thinking about ponchos. I've tried them on but they are usually huge on me. It occurred to me they could be very easy to make with the proper fabric and pattern, and as DIY project I could make it a bit smaller than "normal". .

Do any you have an experience making a poncho? What type of fabric did you use? What type of pattern?

I made a slip over the head poncho. I was inspired by this thread:

I had a shawl that my MIL had woven. I never wore it, until I turned it into a poncho. I left a 15 inch head opening as described in the thread. I pinned it first to see if I liked the general size. It's not my colors, but it works with my colors. The fabric is a cloud soft wool. My MIL has dementia now, so I love wearing something she wove.

I don't, but you can wear a big black scarf instead.

THanks Jaileen, I will definitely look at that posting. And Angie that's a great idea too...a large scarf would be a perfect size poncho for me! Thanks!

I haven't made one. I have searched for ideas on how to make one from a blanket scarf. I have a poncho that I don't wear because it is too big for me. Most ponchos are too big for me. I have come to realize that it is all in the shoulders and has nothing to do with height. I am 5'7.5".

Chris, your post prompted me to remember that my sister had given me a small poncho that she bought at a craft fair. It is of a woven poly fabric and made of 4 pieces sewn together...four seams, two each on front and back. I will try to get some photos later. The head opening is large and long like a boat neck top.
