I got this Wrap London catalog recently with these harem pants:

Mmm I rather like Kelly's harem pants (good structure, good drape), but the Wrap London pair looks too much like leggings/sweats to me.

LOL, Elly!! Una, I don't know what to say without seeing them on you. I agree that the ones in the first link look like sweats or long underwear, but this is coming from an unadjusted eye.

Una - the first picture just made me laugh outloud - and I wasn't sure why until I read Elly's comment! Older men long underwear is exACTLY how they look to me!

Now, Kelly's is a completely different story. Structured, with heels instead of socks?, great jacket, darker color, and such attitude! Hers I like - but I think you should stay away from the WrapLondon's!

Last summer I bought a pair of gray harem pants (jersey material) at the NAS. Actually, I ordered them and so didn't get a chance to try them on. When they came in the mail, I was stunned to discover how awful they looked on me - reminded me of a kid with a soggy diaper! Later, I found a pair of structured black harem pants that I LOVED (and, of course, bought them) - and I still love them. I say hold out for a structured pair!

I live in Camden, NJ and for too many years have seen baggy jeans worn literally beneath the boxer clad butts of both guys and gals. While the harem pants don't seem as hobbling, I still don't get why I would benefit from a lot of extra fabric between my thighs.

Whereas I like some style challenges (maxi skirts, midi skirts, the newer ankle length skinny pants), I still struggle with this one.

Rather than the two options you're showing, I prefer them when they look more Asian. Aren't harem pants originally from India? This picture here (Pakistani harem pants) shows the pants with a fitted tunic. The emphasis is more on the overall effect of the outfit, especially the top, with the pants playing a supporting role. In the Western interpretation (especially your first link) my eye goes first to the drop crotch which immediately shortens the legs. I admit Kelly's version is more unified which is more aesthetically pleasing.

I want to like them but they remind me of when Master 8 was little and his nappy (diaper) would become full and saggy in his trousers:( Oh hope that's not to graphic and gross.

I agree with everyone ~ the first ones veer into overgrown sweats territory. I like the ones Kelly is wearing much better, and can admire a lot about her outfit . . . yet there is also a part of me that wants to yank up the crotch of her pants and her tank top simultaneously by a few inches. Must be the mom in me?

Sorry, both looks make me cringe... :T Reasons:

- creates illusion that crotch is down at knees
- ...which creates the illusion of SHORT legs and LONG torso
- too much volume created in crotch area
- mental association is with saggy diapers on babies
-...and with the ill-fitting long underwear mentioned above

I think this counts as a fashion allergy for me.

Nay. Not so sleek looking to my eye- in fact it's kind of weird. Though I love the rest of the outfit, jewelry and shoes in the glamourai.

Hahahaha! I will not be ordering the Wrap London pants, believe me! I just wanted a YLF take on the look. Kelly manages to pull off just about anything with her style skillz - that's part of the problem for me, learning what the little details are that make the difference.

No diapers, please!

I, too, am drawn to Kelly's look, but I agree with Aida--hers looks polished and the Wrap Catalogue ones look comfy, slouchy, homey and **Elly's Dad. ;D That is alotta coin for loungewear.

Keep searching, you will find your perfect pair. I think your drop crotch will need to be shallower.
