Half of my clothes don't fit!

Help, what do you do when you do a closet purge and half of your clothes don't fit? This was so depressing... tonight I tried on several dresses that are tight and a few don't zip up at all. I guess this happened gradually since this summer/last winter. I feel like I have lost half my wardrobe. And I'm about to put on a bathing suit in Mexico?? I just lost all my confidence.

I could use a few words of wisdom and encouragement. Some of my fave pieces don't fit very well now.

Chuck out the pieces that don't fit NOW. They will only make you depressed. You truly have a great figure, please have a great time buying a few new pieces which fit and flatter and LOVE the body you're in x

Don't you hate it when that happens? You do have a great figure though, and in none of your pics that you have posted do you look chubby AT ALL, so don that swimsuit in confidence:-)
I wouldn't say throw out the tight clothes yet though. Do you see yourself losing the weight soon? Are you trying to? Are we talking 5-10 pounds? While I agree that it isn't wise to hold onto all of our "skinny" clothes in hopes that we might again fit into them someday, I don't think there is anything wrong with keeping your faves for a season while you work out where you are most comfortable weight wise.
In the mean time, do be free to buy clothes that fit and flatter you today!

The last time I felt this way (you notice three pounds if you're 5'3'!) I found a virtual model online (there's one at iVillage) and played around with it. I made her my height and my dimensions and added the three pounds. It was an eye-opener. I couldn't see any difference. The model looked fine, and I realized I did too.

I'm sorry you are feeling a bit down at the moment fathenry. It is kind of depressing, isn't it-(( I agree with what has been suggested: just put everything that doesn't fit exactly right aside for a while and if possible treat yourself to a new item that makes you feel confident and beautiful.
And also: you have looked nothing but amazing in all of your pictures, so put on that bathing suit and go strut your stuff in Mexico!-)

aww fathenry, i sympathize. i have put on a little bit of weight as well, and things i loved no longer fit the way they're supposed to.

here's another vote for what has already been suggested -- put the stuff that doesn't fit for now in a garbage bag, and set it aside. evaluate what's left. treat yourself to one fabulous, amazing new item, and if that doesn't help, challenge yourself to thrift or bargain shop for cool, one-of-a-kind stuff that will bring your wardrobe to life.

and for what it's worth -- you'll still look damn good in that bathing suit. i promise!

Half my closet doesn't fit either. Thus, my closet is a chaotic mess and it's mentally draining. I think you've received good advice: remove the too small clothes for now. Seeing them in your closet every morning will just make you nutty.

And the other half fits! Work with the ones that fit and archive the rest until they behave better.

Joking aside, my weight fluctuates 5-10 pounds uncontrollably (it can be in a week sometimes!) so I have a different sizes of clothes. It's not fun when you really want to wear something and it doesn't fit properly, but it can be a fun exercise to try and come up with new outfits.

I'm putting everything that makes me feel bad in a bag, putting it in the back of the closet for now. And I'm going to go and have a good time in Mexico and wear the other half!

Fathenry, sorry I’ve only got to this thread now, but I was going to suggest what the other lasses have suggested. I have plenty of clients in this ongoing situation.

Your goal is to dress the body you have right now. Get rid of the items that don’t float your boat, and bag the rest that doesn’t fit. It’s perfectly fine that there is a little extra to love at the moment. Have a beautiful trip to Mexico!
