Going Shopping--Fun Work Clothes

I have to run by Nordstrom on my way home from work today ("have" to) to buy some skin care and make-up products, and I was going to look around to see if they have anything that catches my eye for work clothing. I was wondering whether any of you (including Angie) have seen anything or have any suggestions for items that I might find there. In particular, I would like to find pants similar to what Angie calls "cigarette" pants, and pretty blouses/woven tunics. Maybe even a skirt or two.

My shopping style is to try to buy a couple of items that are versatile and long-lasting. I don't have a ton of money, so I prefer to buy fewer high-quality pieces rather than short-lived and/or trendy ones. Any ideas for clothes for Spring and summer? Or is my question just too broad?

What about a white tunic like Angie blogged about? Or a denim or chambray shirt? Of course- there's always dresses!

Yes! I always head straight to the dress section. I'm trying to explore other "business casual" outfits (skirts, slacks, jackets, and blouses).

I'll definitely add the white tunic to my list of things to look for. Thanks for the suggestion Khris. I haven't seen them in the stores, but maybe I wasn't looking too closely.

How about trouser jeans? They have GREAT Halogen and Kenneth Cole trouser jeans in at the moment. I haven't seen affordable cigarette pants at Nordies yet, so get yourself to BR for that.

If you can manage your shirt phobia, I vote tunic shirts too. Browse around AT as well. Lots of very pretty blouses at the moment.

Thanks, Angie. Unfortunately, I only have time to hit Nordies tonight (I have a 1.5 hour commute and don't want to dilly-dally too much up here), but I will check online at BR & AT.

I have one pair of trouser jeans, and I really love them. I will check out others as well. And (gulp) tunics. Perhaps even a belt (?!?). And Fidji's as well. Love the ones that Mariana just posted.

The local Nordies was a bit of a disappointment last night. They had hardly anything in my size, and they don't even carry Fidjis. They can order them, but whatever, so can I. And I can buy them from this site and help support Angie. I looked for tunic tops, but the smallest they had in the store was way too big.

I did get a couple of nice things. I was looking through the Halogen trouser cuts, and they didn't have my size (of course). One of the employees asked what size I took, and when i told her, she said: well, we have one pair of Kenneth Coles left in that size, but they're on the mannequin. They were my size, and they fit perfectly. Plus, since they were the last pair in the store, they were marked down to $29. What a steal! Even my husband, who thinks jeans are inappropriate for the work place, liked them. He didn't know they were denim until I told him. I also bought two cute tops, one a knit material and one a nice woven top. I'll try to get some photos and post them.

Thanks for the tip on the trouser jeans, Angie. I never would have looked, and I really lucked out.
