Glasses help please?

So I thought I would have to wait until May to get new glasses but as it turns out, I have a significant amount of money left in my health spending account from work for eyeglasses that has to be used by March 31st. Depending on total cost (since my prescription is sooooo expensive) I'm hoping to get two pairs of glasses plus one pair of prescription sunglasses. I go March 7th for my eye exam and will be purchasing glasses the same day.

Below are pictures of glasses I quite like - unfortunately these pictures don't really do them justice. You will have to ignore my end of the day tired, makeup-less, pimply chin face! For the record, I was hoping to find a retro inspired pair of cat's eye glasses but when I tried a pair on they completely overwhelmed my narrow face. So comical I didn't even get a photo!

Also, the tortoiseshell larger framed glasses at the end are the ones I'm considering getting made into the dark sunglasses so try and picture with dark lenses. I realize they're a little big for my face but I want my sunglasses to be a bit larger.

Let me know your thoughts of these - any of them good? Should I start over? Thanks for your help!

This is tough, it is hard for me to judge from the closeups. On first impression, I like the blue ones #7, the half frame ones #3, and the black ones in #1. I hope wiser eyes will give you a better opinion.

Shannon, I really like those! You are lucky to have money left in your account to get some new glasses. They are so expensive! It would be fun to have different pairs to change it up with! My favorites are 1 and 3. I think the red in 5 is too bright. I like the purple pair, too and those would be fun for something different, too. I think I would like a more plummy pair, even more. I'm not a good judge of sunglasses, but I think that would work! I'm lucky to come up with one good pair of frames and you've found a bunch! You did good!

I think I like #7 the best. The shape is nice on you and the colour is quite pretty too. Don't like #9 at all - they seem too big and the wrong colour even for sunglasses. #5 seems too bright, #1 kinda boring, #3 not sure I like the half frame idea.

Of the specs you have shown us, I like the first pair best. The size and shape seems the best of the bunch. 2nd choice is 5/6, especially from the side. I don't think the shape is as good as the first pair but the color would be fun. The color of 7 is ok but the shape droops.

I think I like the first one the best - but I am not very adventurous, LOL. When I got new glasses I ended up picking ones that were very similar to what I already had. But anyway - the first ones are very classic and I really like the size/shape/color on you.

For the sunglasses, I wonder if you can find a similar frame to #9 that's a bit more angled... corners turned up a little and especially the lower edge slanted. I think that lower edge is tending just a tad towards droopy --- not significantly so, but just a smidge.

Like Joy, I like the idea of going with broader 'arms' on your second pair, which #5/6 has. Might be even more fun to have it in a colour or pattern (if not on the outside, then inside), if you saw something like that. . . Since you're looking to switch them out, you don't want them too similar to your first pair, I expect.

Get smallish glasses while you can! I am so myopic and my bifocal needs have increased so much that I need more vertical space to squeeze it all in. Very annoying, as the cute stylish specs are smaller, and many/most need a nose bridge that I don't have.

Actually Donna, I've been wearing bifocals (progressives) for about 10 years already. I have had these all tested to ensure they can accommodate my bifocal lenses - but it definitely limits the choices, no doubt about it!

I like the first pair the best ... are there any other semi-rimless to try on? I like that style on you, but not the particular pair you have in the pics

#7 is an absolute no-no. They are droopey

I really like #1. I think that a better version of #9 could work too. The tortoise shell is very attractive and might be my favourite so far.

Hi Shannon!

My vote would be the first pair. I may seem a bit technical in my explanation as to why this is my choice, but... here goes:

- The shape of the lens/frame area is oval - it is the closest to your face shape therefore makes it harmonious. The proportions are PERFECT too.
- The bolder/darker frame suits your colouring best. It brings out your nice hair
- The slimmer frame flatters your smaller bone structure

My runner up would be the red pair. I have two issues with it though:
- the lens/frame area looks just a tad proportionately larger
- I don't find the colour to be flattering. HOWEVER... If the frame was a deeper, darker shade of red, you can DEFINITELY rock it.

Thanks everyone - have I mentioned I HATE buying glasses! There's so much pressure to pick the perfect pair!

Angie - when you say a "better version" for #9, are you referring to the shape or the size? I do like the idea of tortoise for sunglasses. I'm not sure any of these are "killer"...what do you think?

I'm finding the more I look at the photos, the less I like these...

Aww; Shannon - just try to have fun with glasses! I know you're sort of on a time crunch, so that sort of sucks, but I usually pop into random glasses places and try on a bunch and don't plan on buying.

If I find something I love - I jot down the # for later; but no pressure that way!

Shannon: I HATE buying glasses too!!! Well ok... I hate wearing them. So I totally feel you. I often feel rushed too when buying glasses!

As per Angie's suggestion - I'd agree with Tortoise shell!

Thanks for the feedback Angie - I think these are all a "pass". Gonna keep looking (thanks lyn!). But it gives me a starting point and as long as you all don't mind me posting a few threads with glasses pics...maybe a smaller pair of tortoise...

Shannon, I know you've said you're continuing on your search, but let me chime in with another vote for #1 as the best of these. The size, shape, color, and proportion seem to suit you very well, plus I think they go with the outfits I've seen you post. These could be a good everyday pair, with another one in a fun color like the periwinkle pair (although I think the corners on the ones here turn down too much). Beyond #1, the other pairs seem too wide for your face; I'd try shopping at another eyeglass place and see if you get better help finding frames that are a good fit for your narrow temple.

Hi Shannon, here is my 2 cents: I like 3 best, but as Angie says, keep looking. The reason why I like 3 is that it has a clear bottom; all the others, and it might only be the lighting and picture angle, create an unsightly shadow that hit right below the eyes, giving the impression of under-eye puffiness. Again, it might be the light, but it is something to think about with small glasses. Something like #5 would be fun and fashion forward, if you are ready for this extreme. But the colour here is just not quite perfect with your colouring. Maybe pink? Or white, or transparent?

I like #1 and #7 best. I think #7 looks great with your coloring, while #1 may be more versatile in terms of being able to wear them with more outfits.

Show us more pictures when you get them! I love looking at glasses. Have you found a good store - one where the SA can be trusted?
