Girls dinner date

I have been invited out tomorrow evening with a few girl friends for dinner then a few drinks. My initial thought was not to go due to the effort of finding something to wear and then I decided that I need to snap out of this attitude. So I have two options. One jersery black dress with waistcoat over. I would love a small brightly coloured bag to set it off but don't have time to buy and I've not been paid yet so no such luck. Second outfit is a orange silk effect mini dress, Please be honest do you think it is too short? I have worn it out with leggings before but it look quite casual and I wanted a bit more impact!

Are either acceptable for a girlie night out? I still haven't decided on an outfit for Thursday night, but thats a few days away yet!!

I personally like the longer length of the black dress, but you look fantastic in the orange dress too.

I totally vote dress #2. It’s stunning and looks sensational! I think flats would look better actually. Cute sandals or ballet flats. That frock is short and skinny heels with a short frock looks a little dated to my eye. Does that make sense?

It does pass the sit down test as its sort of loose fitting ther is no problems there. It actually looks shorter than it is due to my short body if that make sense. Angie I agree that flat shoes would perhaps work better but I actually don't have any smart enough for wearing out. I also have this thing that makes me feel undressed in flats, so I normally reserve them for day time outfits. Do you think shoes with a chunkie heel would be better or maybe the ones I got for work which are black, lower heel, round toe with two little straps over the front?! If not it will need to be the ones in the pic and I can add lovely new flats to the wish list (actually they're already on it lol).
Thanks to all of you for the advice, maybe I will be able to go out and enjoy myself tonight!!

i was immediately drawn to #2 as well! i like the idea of a flat sandal or boot. hopefully you'll post photos of the final ensemble!

Yes Julie I think that outfit 1 might be quite good for work, particularly when it starts getting hotter!
