(Gin &) Tunic, Anyone?

From a quick look, I'd say 1 and 3 definitely, 4 probably, and 2 not sure. For myself, I don't see wearing the more dress-like tunics with ponte pants.

Sooooo, the tops are all GORGEOUS Laura. Love them! Doesn’t look like there has been a struggle at all! Your Ponte pants are like skinny jeans. Has the colour been the challenge?

See, for me, those are all too short. My fit problem is that I'm very pear-shaped these days, and where these end are at my thighs and that is where I am the widest, so the look is very unflattering. I don't own skinny jeans for the same reason; there were no tops available that were long enough to accentuate my legs while also not bringing attention to my hips and thighs.

The other issue is style: I like the cut of the boatneck tunic the best, but the patterns available, like this one, are too hippie-ish in flavor for me. Finiding a tunic in that cut with a modern pattern or plain bright color has proved to be impossible so far.

I would like a nice strong blue-veined cheese to go with my whine and gin&tonic, please!

Kristen, I empathize and have brought a chunk of blue-veined cheese along. Goes great with G&T.

Angie is right. The issue is color. All of those tops are grey or black, and if I have to buy one more grey or black top this season, I'm gonna scream. I can't find anything else! And this comes from someone who's favorite neutral is grey. It's overload! I like #2 with the blue and black pattern, but it might be too long on me. Kristen, it would be just right on you. Also, I prefer a woven tunic so it drapes nicely over the pants, and because a knit top and knit pants gets, well, a bit too knitty for me.

Perhaps I will order #2 and see how it comes out.

I'd love to see the first and last one on both of you Laura (my favourite is the last one, I think). The second one is a bit more boho, but I can see you wearing that too.
The third one looks more like a longer T-shirt style top to me.

I'll keep a further eye out for both of you, it is kind of hard to find the perfect tunic, isn't it.

Laura, I hear you! The sea of black and grey in stores is hopeless. And you’re speaking to the woven queen so I hear you even louder. Sometimes, I feel like starting a T-shirt bonfire.

I don’t know if you even like red, but there is a red biker vest at Express that would solve your woven and colour dilemma. Pop that over these tunic and Ponte knit pant ensembles and I see a happy bunny :

Also, add a colorful scarf, necklace and bag. Have you tried Piperlime's woven tunics? How about tartan?

Kristen, its too cold to wear leggings and tunics now. But #2 is fabulous for you.

Angie, I'm confused: when you say it's too cold for leggings/tunics, do you mean I should try tunics/ponte pants instead? I do have a pair of those too but no good tunics to go with them.

Laura, we should schedule a Tunic Hunt shopping trip; maybe if we hit Macy's INC department and Zara/Anthro/F21 at the far end of OO we might find at least some options to try on so we could solve the length and fabric issues. I will even wear my ponte pants for the trip!

Yay, Laura! Get the red moto vest. (Hah! The name of the plaid tunic is hilarious. It’s pretty and you should definitely try it).

Kristen, leggings are about sock-less ballet flats. It’s too cold for those unless you live in TX and Florida. It’s all about closed shoes now. Boots and booties! Either Ponte pants with tops, or hose with skirts and dresses. No point in wearing leggings with boots, right? Kristen, you need more woven items in your tops collection. Shirts! Julie’s post today will hopefully be an inspiration.

Angie - can you clarify - you said above that there is no point in wearing leggings with boots? So, if you wear a shorter sweater or tunic dress you should pair with either skinny jeans/booties and or ponte pants booties? Is it a no-no to wear leggings with boots? Thanks!

Ah, Angie, thanks for clarifying! I agree, it's too cold for leggings and flats now, which is why I've been looking for an alternative with the ponte pants. I've just felt strange wearing ponte pants with my dresses -- they feel like real pants whereas leggings just feel like tights, you know? It felt odd under a dress.

Oooh, thank you for the links! I love the Brixton woven with the mandarin collar. Unfortunately it's out of my size but I think I will look for others like it. I do miss wovens in my wardrobe.

Julie, you might as well wear tights or hose with boots. Why choose leggings if you’re going to cover up the detail of the leggings? That being said, I am still wearing my stirrup leggings with booties when it’s in the 50’s – but that’s a lot more coverage then leggings with ballet flats. Does that make sense?

Kristen, I wear my *pseudo* Ponte pants with normal length tops and tunics. They're pseudo because they’re actually woven but look so much like a knit! I can’t help it. I’m a true woven gal through and through. Glad you’re adding wovens into your wardrobe too :0)

You have to look at Macys!!!

I agree with Angie -- take a look at Macy's! INC has many tunic-length, patterned tops that are perfect to wear with the ponte pants.

Oh my I nearly fell off my chair when I saw that leather Express vest in red!! I remember being tempted by the grey version when it first came out, I don't remember seeing it in red then! With a potential interstate move on the cards, and some major summer wardrobe gaps I had put myself on an unoffical online shopping break. This is seriously tempting me to give in. I'm in love!!!!!

Oh and I nearly forgot to add. Have you guys looked at Boden's tunics? I think some of them are lovely and they come in some fun colours/prints.
