Full-on fluid, or fluid over fitted?

I just got these wide-leg drapey pants back from the tailor (who nipped in the hips a little so I didn't catch a strong wind and accidentally go parasailing).

I've been wanting to wear them with this cropped sweater-poncho thing, but what are your thoughts about what should go under the sweater?

1. Fluid shirt (Express Portofino)

2. Fitted tee

Kind of worried that #1 is so much "fluid" that I'm drowning, but maybe my eye hasn't adjusted yet.

I think both looks work. Look 1 with fluid over fluid being more fashion forward as Angie would say. I love that cropped poncho style sweater. And you have styled it very well.

I think both flatter you equally well. So can't really pick a favorite

I'm a little torn. Maybe #1 with skinnier pants... and #2 for fluid pants. Really love the crop sweater!

I'm not surprised by your husband's response... Men must be REALLY sick and tired of the lack of femininity these days... They don't care for any of these "fluid" fashions being discussed among women.

This will sound conceited, but I need to explain it in order to make my point. I'm sure you can relate. There was a time when I was turning heads regardless of what I wore. That's not the case now pretty much again regardless of what I wear, but there's a difference in perception when I wear pants (which is most of the time...) and when I wear a skirt or a dress. A few days ago I was wearing a form-fitting dress with a fairly low neckline and went to get groceries after work. Half of the guys around my age in the store were all smiles and tripping to help me without being asked. Then again, I'm not the type of woman who brushes them aside and says "I CAN do it" (one of the reasons many of them are no longer gentlemen...). I graciously accept, let them do it, and thank them.

My preference is to pair something fitted with something loose, but I am drawn to the loose, flowy top in #1. I feel that the cropped, boxy sweater gives it enough structure.
Those pants will be so versatile!

@FL: "He must have one stylish granny." Um, actually he doesn't. He thought the loose-weave cropped sweater looked like something knitted by my mom, who is not known for her fashion sense.

He changed his tune slightly when I told him the sweater was from Urban Outfitters (one of his favorites) -- but only slightly.

I think #2 works better because fitted top makes cropped sweater stand out more.

Oh April, that's hysterical! I said I loved your pants...and I already have them. Bought them two weeks ago! I need to get them hemmed so I haven't worn them yet.

I mainly bought them for dance lessons and practice (ballroom) but they are so comfy, and lighter weight than my winter pontes, I can see wearing them in my regular, mostly casual life. Especially now that I have admired them on you without knowing what I was looking at!

I tend to ignore men. Of course they like form fitting over loose...they want to look. That's their issue! I love my DH of 30 years, but he keeps weird plaid jackets and bright yellow shirts and doesn't care a bit if I like them, so I'm wearing what I want. Plus I've found most men take a long time to get used to a new style. Unless it is the form fitting stuff, then they are all over it.
