Frye Cindys--what to do?

I got my Fryes this week from the big sale on 6pm and I'm scratching my head here.

Well first of all they are VERY comfortable...but I think I might need to go down half a size. One of my feet is fine in them but the other is slipping a little. Do they stretch much?

In any case, I'm unsure about the look. I don't know. Maybe I'm being irrational but I am just not in love. I don't dislike them but I don't think they're that marvelous either.
When I see them in the pictures I like them, yet in the mirror I somehow don't love them as much. What is wrong with me?!

Maya, I once read that dressing is a very emotional and visceral thing. So if you are not "in love" set it free.....

In the first pic of the side view, they look kind of long on you in the toes. Could you go down a size? What to do? What to do? lol

Well it looks like my dilemma is solved. Even if I decided to keep them and just exchange for the right size, they are no longer available on 6pm Neither are virtually any of the other styles they were offering before. I guess it was just a short term thing for the holidays. I cannot afford Fryes full price. Sigh.

Maya, I loved my Frye Veronicas so much that the little roominess *didn't* bother me. In other words, I was willing to overlook the imperfect fit in order to keep them whereas it sounds that you are looking at the fit as one reason not to keep boots that you don't love, even if you thought you would. (And I bought mine in that great 6pm sale too, so couldn't try a new size either.)

I'm not loving that color, but I love the style on you. Are they buttah soft, like the Rorys?

I must confess these were growing on me once I saw the pictures. Now I'm a little bummed that I can't exchange. That's quite rotten of 6pm.

The leather is very soft. I don't know about buttery. I don't know what the Rorys are like to compare.

Do they *look* too big? I know Renata thought they did. I could try padding them up a bit with socks and an insole..

These look nice but of course, how they feel is another issue. If you don't love them I vote send back, aren't Frye's investment boots? If you don't love them you are going to be stuck with a boot you only "like" for a very long time as they won't wear out fast.

I like the way they slouch and the color! For stretching, I have come to figure that all leather shoes/boots stretch, but if you don't put a lot of strain on them (i.e. they aren't too small) the stretching will be less. So you may still need to compensate with an insole or thicker socks.

If you are having second thoughts, though, they cost enough not to hang onto.

You can always keep the size you want in your cart, you can watch to see when it goes down on price again. . .

Are these the boots you are wearing in your Secret Santa pictures? If so, I love the color. While I don't want to encourage you to "settle" I'm not sure that the "perfect 10+ boot' will ever cross your threshold. These are fabulous quality, will last for years, comfortable, a great color, and a classic enough style that they won't date.
I'm wondering if the price is clouding your ability to really assess clearly? Although, you do spend $$ on boots don't you? Just a thought.. I know for me the more expensive something is, the harder time I have making the commitment.

Kim, the money is actually incentive to keep rather than return. They were only $149, which is downright cheap for Fryes.

If I return them, I may not get another chance like this. I wish 6pm didn't have such shady practices!

I'll try padding them a bit with an insole and thicker socks and see how it goes. They're only loose in one foot. I'm just worried about stretching.

Maya, I actually love them on you - the slouchiness looks great (and you could even push them down a bit farther for experimentation's sake) and I like that you are giving brown a chance again. I can't visibly see that they are too big - they are obviously wide in the shaft at a 15" circumference, but they are supposed to be slouchy so that shouldn't be a problem.

With the Rory boots, the top part of the shaft (the slouchy part) is very soft and does stretch with each wear. The lower part of the boot (from the ankle down to the foot, below the curved seam) really does not stretch and is much firmer. If the Cindys are built similarly, I doubt that the foot part will stretch any more.

My main concern is a) Are they going to meet your comfort needs, especially since they are a little big for you and b) do you love them enough to warrant the money spent, even if they are ridiculously cheap compared to unaffordable (well, to you and me) full priced Fryes?

If these boots pass both tests, I'd keep them. I hope that they work for you, Maya.

Alas, Gap is too glamorous for me. My striped shirt is H&M But we can be fraternal twins!

Kari, I think if they do not stretch in the foot, they'll be fine. But they're so soft I figured they might. Right now I like the size because my foot doesn't go all the way up into the point of the toe. In a half size or full size down, they might. Honestly, it could go either way. My right foot is slightly shorter than my left foot, so this is not unusual for me. Ideally I'd order the 6.5 and just keep the 7's and compare the two...but clearly that is not an option. Grr.

My secret as far as boots go--which is a bit embarrassing if I'm going somewhere where I have to take off my shoes--is to wear different socks on each foot :p I don't need to do that with all of my boots, but I might have to with these. Since no one will see them, I don't think of it as being a dealbreaker. Also, if they're the same color, it's hard to tell anyway.

I wonder if Zappos would send me the 6.5's at the price I got them for on 6pm. I doubt it, but who knows?

Me too, Maya. My left foot is nearly half a size larger than my right. I've never thought of simply doubling up on socks on my right foot to make up for the difference, but that's a great idea! (If I remember correctly, both you and I have straight-across toes that don't really slant - or was that someone else I was thinking of?)

If only Zappos still offered price matching... but it's worth a shot to ask.

Yes, I have straight-ish toes. I am always looking for new and inventive ways to balance out my foot discrepancies. It's definitely easiest with closed shoes like boots or oxfords.

Zappos might not offer price matching for most stores, but since it owns 6pm anyway, my money is ultimately getting to the same place....so theoretically it shouldn't make a difference. Bureaucratically, it might.

I'm sure IRL my H&M top is nastier in quality. It's the only tshirt I own--not a knit top. I only use it for layering, It looks awful on its own.

I think the boots are fab, but only you can decide about their fit, style, etc. Have they grown on you, or are you thinking they will go back? I like the idea of the thicker sock on the smaller foot! I have the same bizarre problem: one foot is a 9 1/2, one is a 10, but I can't wear 10s (too small--I think it's because my toes go straight across, rather than sloping downward, like yours and Kari's), and they don't usually make 10 1/2s, so I have to wear 11s, which you can imagine are usually quite large on my smaller foot.

I'm with Kari and Jonesy. I love them on you, Maya! A nice change for sure.

Fit and comfort aside, they are superb. But you have to love them and you know your feet best.

I think they look fab, Maya! I'm afraid on me they wouldn't turn out quite as slouchy so I have to pass, but it makes me a bit sick inside that I just paid more for Kenneth Cole non leather boots.

Maya - My frugal side says to consider ordering the previous size again also. They are cheaper now. You need to pay to return two pair then, but the savings may work out better for you. (Does that make sense? and it depends on the cost of returning a second pair. . .)

That's true Sara. I'm 90% sure I'll end up keeping the 6.5's though. I think they will stretch. They are very soft.

Fryes for $107! That's cheaper than most of my boots.

By the way, 6pm has free 2 day shipping as well! I don't know what the details are, but it was the default option when I checked out.
