Found a great casual summer dress (edited: now w/photo)

Found my flip flops* dress for summer!

(*Okay, not the rubber flip flops frowned upon here, I mean cute leather thong sandals!)

I saw Christine's thread about summer dresses, and it really is hard to find something casual and flattering, so I was thrilled to find this casual dress at a local store called Hot Mama.

I sized up to a M so the length is at the knee, and I bought it in different colors than shown here -- an ink blue and a kelly green. It's t-shirt fabric, which makes it cool and comfy. The saleswoman did say a large-busted customer tried it and it wasn't as flattering on her figure as on others (those gathers really enhance the bustline!). But on me it was just great!

Yes, I duplicate per Angie's recommendation! Glad to hear you do it too. I tend to duplicate basics (i.e. the perfect white shirt) or hard-to-find items like the perfect casual summer dress, if I am lucky enough to find something I love.

What's happened so many times is that once I realize how much I love an item and how often I wear it, it's too late because it has sold out, the season is nearly over, etc. etc. It's tricky!

Laura, I can definitely see why that dress would look just wonderful on you. It's your silhouette for sure.

If I was looking for a dress for myself and I saw that, I would have to run the other way. The ruching, the empire waist, the high neck--I'm surprised that saleswoman even got a busty girl to try it on in the first place. I would run away screaming! My bustline needs no further enhancement, thankyouverymuch.

Also, can I ask your opinion on the sandals? I haven't decided to keep them yet. My hesitation is the gold-toned circle-ring ... I wear more silver than gold, but I don't mind mixing the two, either. Keep or keep looking? Close-up:

Oh, and p.s. to Maya: the saleswoman said the large-busted customer liked the dress so much that she bought it, despite the fact that the saleswoman sort-of tried to talk her out of it ... this is why we love Angie, right?? She would never let one of us make that kind of mistake.

Lovely! SOO pretty on you! I love the color, the band at the waist - it's perfect! I like the sandals a lot too; I like it with the navy color of the dress.

That dress is adorable! It looks so cozy.

As for the sandals, I would be cautious about that metal ring. I had a pair of sandals last summer with a metal ring right about the same placement, and they would be fine during the day, but then the next day, I'd wake up and my foot would be quite tender in the spot with the ring - sometimes even bruised. I wouldn't notice it when wearing them, except if I tried to wear them a second day in a row, then they were just awful. I would have to go about 4 days before my foot recovered enough to wear them again. Just wasn't worth it!!!

Hmmm. I never even thought of the discomfort factor of the metal ring - was only concerned about the gold color. I'm going to wear them around the house a bit more with that in mind!

I think it looks wonderful on you Laura! And you will get so much use out of it too.

I also think the sandals are beautiful, but I also wonder about Shiny's concerns. I tried on a pair of sandals like that last year and though I did not walk in them for long (I didn't keep them) I could sense that the O-ring would rub uncomfortably.

The thing that was weird is mine didn't bother me while I was wearing them. In fact, they seemed quite comfortable. It was only the next day that my foot would be sore on top. I may have an ultra-sensitive foot (on top) though. So hopefully YMMV!

I think the sandals are also really cute but you seem so much more of a silver toned person, I know that you do not mind mixing metals but bronze and gold are really going to the warm side of things. You have such beautiful feet!!

Jean, to your point about the sandals, I was trying bronze because it's close to my hair color, but it does tend to send me in the warm color area, which is not typical of most of my clothes. You are so good with color

Way to go Laura! I am also searching for flattering, cotton jersey dresses for summer...and no luck so far! Boo!

I like the navy on you, and the dress looks pretty and comfortable.

The sandals are cute too. I like the bronze...but if that doesn't work with what you typically wear, then you may want to make a switch. I would suggest a nice pewter or anthracite sandal to go with your navy and green dresses...and much more!

The dress looks super Laura! So comfortable and light. Duplicating it was the right thing to do methinks, you're going to get so much use out of them.

I like the sandals, but it appears that you're leaning towards returning them. If you need help with finding another pair, give us a shout;-)

I am going to return the sandals, although maybe Angie will chime in here and let me know for sure. Thanks lwc for the sandal suggestions -- maybe I will join the Clarks Brulee army marching along here! And pewter would be just right with both colors. I am all set for summer ... the only missing link is some summery weather!

Laura, the dress looks fantastic on you! I am hoping to find the equivalent of your flip flop dress - that high neckline combined with the ruching would be a disaster on me....

I like the shoes - most of the ring is covered by the leather section on top so I wonder if it would rub as much as you think? I don't really have fussy feet so these kind of things don't bother me all that much. In terms of the color, if you generally wear more cool colors, you might be better off with a pair in silver.
