For Suz: J Crew tuxedo and boy shirts comparison

Hi Suz,

So here are both of these shirts (both size 2) side by side for comparison. As you can see the boy shirt is very loose on me. I think we have similar measurements, though you are tinier. I am 5'6", just measured my shoulders and they are 38.5" circumference, wear a 30D bra and have 24" waist. I hope this helps you to figure out the right size.

Tux shirt is perfect. I wear mine this roomy. See exhibit A. Modern!

Like the boy shirt fit too. Mine fits in a similar way. Exhibit B.

I didn't know your plaid shirt was the boy cut, for some reason I thought it was the perfect fit. Nevertheless, both of yours are obviously beautiful on you.

Tanya, based on what you're saying, I think I might need the 2 in the tux shirt as well. I am shorter than you but not tinier. Also have 38.5 shoulders and bust is about the same as well...and a bigger waist measurement by an inch. I did try on the boy shirt in a 0 and it fit nicely (with looseness) but it's really the shoulder measurement on the tux shirt that I'm most concerned about. They didn't have it at the Toronto store, so I couldn't try it in person.

Interesting. I'm usually a 4 in tops but sized up (per Angie's rec) to a 6 for a bit more of a relaxed fit.

I love the JCrew tuxedo shirt but the price really scares me away. Suz, are you going to order it?
Angie has spoken and I have no more to add to the expert opinion. It is so weird but I like plaid shirts I see styled on the web and I like how Angie rocks hers but every time I try one myself I get that frump factor big time...

Sveta, I don't think it is weird. Tartan is not for everyone. I think for someone with your inherent drama, it is simply not the right pattern. Whereas you rock that incredibly Aztec influenced pattern in the tunic you wore this week. I happen to like tartan (and perhaps this makes sense with my Scottish heritage). But patterns are extremely personal -- something I have learned only on YLF!

I have not decided whether to pull the trigger, Sveta. Agreed on the expense. I have a gift card at J. Crew which would cover part of the cost. Hubby ordered something that did not work out (for him) so he got a gift card instead of money back. And gave to me.

MamaP: a 2 would be sizing up for me...usually I would be a 0 in shirts.

Mamapicklejuice, I have also sized up in both of these shirts. I am normally 0, sometimes even 00 in J Crew shirts.

Tanya, I'm not sure which fit I have, but the plaid shirt is last season.

Sveta, you will ROCK the look. Your challenge is to find a plaid shirt that is long enough. Speak to Inge! She just found one :). And she just bought the tux shirt and it looks long enough on Inge - so it will be on you too.

Suz, I think you need this shirt. It's not cheap because it's part of J. Crews designer collection. The quality is stunning!!! That said, it creases ALOT. You have to be at peace with that.

Thanks, Angie. I am going to order. We do have J Crew (in Toronto) but they didn't have the shirt in-store for me to try when I was there, so it has to be an online order. I was able to try the boyshirt on. I seemed to fit the 0 in that, but wasn't sure if the fits were the same.

Ah, yes. I had to order the tux shirt online too. It is not available in stores. I haven't tried on the boy shirt that Tanya is wearing - sorry I can't help you out.

I also had to order the tuxedo shirt online - luckily I guessed the correct size. The shirt is pricey - it is the only full price item I bought for spring and it ended up being more expensive than my new trench, but I think that it is worth it.

Angie, I love your plaid shirt! It looks more fitted than mine, that is why I was unsure, but it is not important, I was just curious.

Thanks Tanya and Angie for the pics! I ordered one in a size 8 (after trying on the boy shirt in store, they also did not have the tuxedo). I'm excited to see if it will work for me or not. You two look great in your shirts!
