Footwear for an EF dress

I have an event coming up and I'd like to wear this light grey EF dress. What people wear at this event varies, from sparkly dresses to nice workwear. Anyway, I've only worn the dress with sandals. Do you think boots would work with it? I have a couple pairs of black boots, Frye and Born. I'm also considering these Via Spiga grey suede boots. What do you think of these various options? Do you think dressy shoes would be better?

I think I like the gray boots best too. If you go with the Fryes make sure to test drive the dress with the boots around the house. Sometimes hems like that get caught in my boot hardware.

I like the grey boots, as long as the greys match/blend. However, if people will be dressed up in "sparkles" I think I'd be more tempted to wear dressy shoes. Boots are pretty casual.

Grey suede boots would be fabulous. The other two pairs seem a bit too casual for the event. What are your dressy shoe options?

Thanks Sterling, Traci, Elizabeth, El Cee, Angie. I've gone ahead and ordered the grey boots. If they are the wrong color I can return them. Traci, great advice about the hardware!

I've seen a huge range of dressiness at this event. Not everyone wears sparkly things, but some do. Many wear nice suits and dresses. I was thinking of boots for warmth. At the very least I want to wear stockings, if not boots, so definitely no sandals.

Here are dressy shoe options: SE Okala, Liz Claiborne, Alex Marie. The fourth picture is Camper. They are probably too casual, but I really love them!

Is this a standing or a sitting event? That always makes a big difference for me as to my footwear choice. I adore your Okalas and think they would be lovely paired with your EF dress -- but I know I personally would have issues if I had to stand for a few hours in that style (narrow heels and a semi-open foot).

It's a banquet setting, so some standing at the beginning, and then sitting. Oh, and walking to and fro from a parking garage probably.

Now, why did you have to show me those Via Spiga boots?

Gorgeous, but I worry about duelling greys. This is the bane of my existence, though maybe less so now with grey hair? I am hoping it will make things blend/ cohere more...

I like the idea of SILVER shoes for this if people will be in sparkles.

I can stand in my Okalas well so can't advise on that -- it depends on your feet, I guess, and the surface.

I have silver peep toe shoes. I couldn't wear stockings with them, could I? I don't want bare legs. Brrr

JAileen, we might be EF dress twins. The dressier boots and any of shoes 1-3 plus the peep-toes seem like they would work. You could add some sparkle with jewelry and/or a clutch if you wanted.

I like the idea of gray boots too - but definitely test any boots before you wear them with an uneven hem dress. I've had trouble with hankerchief hems catching on the tops of my boots. Of the dressy shoes, I love #3 the best

El Cee, I've never heard of toeless stockings. They don't sound warm enough to me. Have you tried them?

Joy, I didn't know you had this handkerchief hem dress. I remember when you got an EF dress that when I tried it, everyone told me to return it (it looked better on you than on me!)

The dress looks fantastic on you! I like Angie's picks. Those gray suede boots look so chic--I hope they work out for you. And your black ones are a good fall-back option. You can always add a little sparkle with jewelry, too.

Good advice here, and I second: the gray boots only if the gray tones are similar; silver shoes (peep toes with nude-foot hose would work) to add a dressy touch to the minimalist dress; some extra sparkle via jewelry, bag, etc. Have fun!

Tulle, thanks! The boots are scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. So we'll see. I'm not sure about the toe-less hosiery. It seems too cold to me. Is there anyone here who has actully worn them?

I used to wear those hose (just remembered that they are called "sandalfoot") by Hanes, back when I still wore hose, and they were fine. The toes are sheer, not actually naked. But I know that shivery feeling, and I wear boots for dressy cold-weather occasions a lot up here in the mountains. I just try to wear a boot with some kind of dressy element--a pointier toe, a slightly higher heel, a metallic or elegant suede finish, a close fit. Keep us posted about how your boots work out.

Earlier in this thread El Cee mentioned toe less stockings. I don't know if I could wear them. I've had sandalfoot stockings in the past. I'm really hoping the grey boots work out!
