Followup to raincoat thread - critique this contender?

I really like this one, but I'm eyeing a non-returnable one. I could always resell it, but I'm trying to decide if I should buy now or risk waiting for the lower price. If you aren't sick of me talking gear by now, would you mind pointing out any warning signs if you see them? It can cinch like photo 1 or be worn loose like photo 2. I'm looking at the olive color in 1.

Pros:
- I've been searching for an olive anorak for YEARS
- very lightweight (good for climate and travel)
- Gear brand
- Wicking lining
- Reviews say it'll hit lower on my height - back right near the knee
- can cinch or un-cinch as the mood hits
- has good reviews
- water-repellant (I don't need fully waterproof)
- can wear in both casual and workout capsules
- lining is soft and NOT plasticy-feeling (big one for me)
- Seller is great and measured everything for me
- holds value for resale
- LOVE the look of that collar

Cons?
- The sherpa detailing? Is it limiting? Is there any situation where it's raining and a fuzzy lining looks out of place?
- can't return
- If I buy it right now, it's pretty expensive for me. Then again, most of the ones that sound like they'll work for me are, too.

I love it, and think it would be quite practical. Now, the A-line wouldn't be the first choice for absolute warmth -- most super warm parkas are either a little longer or closer to the legs.. It this does go to your knee, you should be fine, however. I also imagine you'll be using it for more 30-40 degree weather than sub-zero temperatures.

I like the sherpa lining, although it might show a little dirt.

As for expense ---- hard for me to evaluate. I'll just say it's a good thing this color is like death on me, and it's probably way too small, to boot. Otherwise I might out bid you lol.

I am also worried about the dirt with the sherpa lining, but I guess it depends how clean of a person you are! Can it be easily removed to be cleaned?

I love the coat though; it is very rae and if it has been so difficult for you to find on e that meets most of your criteria, I'd bite

The point Beth Ann made about warmth is actually a plus. If you can believe it, our rains are usually more like 40-60F... a big reason that lots of coats get eliminated for me. The ones with nice linings are so often rated too warm, and the unlined ones mostly feel like plastic wrap.

I've historically been good with white items. My Puma jacket is still going after a couple years.

Looks pretty good to me. Lets face it, really good gear does not usually come cheap.

You've only mentioned its water repellant, experience tells me you'll still get wet in a prolonged downpour. When we go hiking in the rain I've got a true 'gear' jacket bought from an outdoors shop x

I've also got wicking tees to wear under it as that helps to prevent me getting too sweaty. Last time we hiked in the rain I wore a short sleeved wicking tee, long sleeve 'gear' fleece and my thin waterproof jacket. I'd got waterproof trousers over my regular trousers, and a hat, snood and gloves. The layers could be un/zipped as I got hot or cold x

I know zero about true gear but are you looking for something you can wear in the rain without a need for an umbrella? The parka does not have a hood. That could be an issue. Are you getting a rain hat or similar?

I remember the rain could come down in sheets of water in L.A. at times. In serious rainstorms, water repellant is useless. I've had faux shearling linings in garments that could be washed and hung to dry. Came out fine. Usually can wash water repellant jackets/raincoats so long as you double rinse and get all the soap out. I think garments
with too much shearling showing can look a little goofy in summer or warm seasons but not much shows here.

I'd need to know more about your activities with this -- I don't think it is a stay-out-in-heavy-rain coat -- is that what you are looking for? Or something to toss over during a brief shower? I find a hood pretty essential on my rain gear.

I like the colour for you but am not sure on the sherpa lining. I think that sherpa doesnt wash well and gear usually is washed frequently.

It's a great jacket, but it doesn't look waterproof to me. What's the material? I don't find that it looks like a rain jacket, but maybe that's a good thing. If it's not water proof though (water repellant you said?) then I would probably keep looking.

My original thread was only looking for water-resistant coats. The rain here just isn't that serious most of the time. The ones I have are only water-resistant, and I am happy with the protection, just not breathability.

There actually is a hood on there.

I like the way it looks. The shearling should be fine. Is it real or faux shearling? Wool is a water-resistant fiber, so I wouldn't think that would be an odd feature on a rain jacket. Also, the shearling should be fairly easy to spot clean.

Well, I put in a bid. We'll see if I win in a few days, but at least the option to buy now is gone so it won't disappear suddenly.

I also ordered this one from Zappos, by North Face, but I'm betting it is probably too heavy/warm.

I am actually quite intrigued by that NF,I was just wondering about the color and whether it is Camel or SS beige. I am in desperate need of a spring / fall trench.

Zap, I am wondering, too. It also comes in black, but I'd prefer not to resort to black. The color is listed as "tan" so I'm hoping that is a good sign.
