Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

Finding "my" gray

Generally, I think darker grays and charcoals suit me best, but I really like this cardigan and wonder if I could wear a medium gray? I think the steely blue would not be flattering on me, and I have to rule black out because I wanted to wear it with leggings, and my leggings are black and dark gray. I would also be wearing it with dark denim and that just seems too dark all over, especially with my dark hair.

Anyway, if I can't pull this shade of gray off I will have to bypass it, so I wanted to ask first. I would be layering other colors underneath it, most likely. So perhaps that could help balance it out.

Edit: Just realized the link goes to the navy color. I'm referring to the battleship color. The navy does not come in my size anyway.

I personally do not see a reason why it wouldn't work, your coloring is not very warm. As always, I would try it on, take a photo in the dressing room and post it her for opinions. If you layer it over your favorite teal tops that might help if the color is washing you out.

Maya,
That is a beautiful grey, I guess it depends on whether you wear cool colors well. It reads as almost a blue. As you mentioned you could always layer with a different color that works for you. I do not think it would be a problem making that work for you, it is a lighter color for spring and a great looking sweater!!

Oh, I just wanted to make sure everyone is looking at the right color. The color I'm referring to is "battleship," not the navy.

Oh I did think that it was battleship, it does not look navy.
I do not like the grey as much, however with your coloring I think contrasting layers could make it work for you. I cannot wear that color at all but I have warm coloring. I still love the sweater! Have you thought about the navy?

I was looking at the "battleship" already :)

I am terrible at guessing which colors work well for which complexion in general but I can say that I like that gray.

GG, the navy is not in my size. I'm also used to wearing bright, rich colors so I didn't think it would work on me.

I don't know if this is helpful, but I would personally wear this grey, because it's got blue undertones. Can you wear cool colors?

Umm, I don't really know. Laura says so. But I think I can wear warm and cool colors as long as they are bright and rich enough. I can't wear muted colors, which is why the idea of a lighter gray makes me kind of uneasy.

I don't think that grey is too dark to wear with dark denim. I would have to see the grey on your to decide if it looked okay. Unless a color really washes someone out, or changes their complexion--I don't really notice. What colors would you wear under it? Red? Yelllow (can you wear yellow?) Purple??

The black would be too dark to wear with denim (& black leggings). I would wear pretty much any color I would normally wear. Anything rich and bright. Also probably white. I went ahead and just ordered it because I'm too impatient to wait for opinions.

I'm glad you ordered it. I like the grey and think it would be great with your coloring. The grey is similar in color to the color of my sweater dress I have olive skin with dark hair.

I’d give it a go. Look how great it looks with turquoise!
