Did anyone see the Season 8 opener with new Doctor!

It was telecast live at 4.50 a.m. Sunday morning in Oz and replayed Sunday evening.

Master 11 and I were both cautiously optimistic about the new 'regenerated' Doctor but by the end of the episode we had fully embraced him. The first episode with a new Doctor must be incredibly challenging for the writers, and it was kind of awkward in moments but if you are a fan, definitely worth watching.

I think Peter Capaldi is going to do the Doctor proud. And I loved his outfit. (Each Doctor has his own distinct look) New Doctor, new look! Navy Suit, with what looks like a satin red trim on the underside and black lace ups:)

I do wonder if I will ever get over David Tennant tho:(

I really enjoyed it! Excited to see more of Peter Capaldi and the intriguing Missey....

(But yes, David Tennant, sigh. Did you happen to see him on Broadchurch?)

Yes a great transition from the young to the old (?).
Loved DT in Broadchurch Emily & he was superb as Hamlet

Emily, I really like Peter Capaldi as an actor:) And yes! Broadchurch is running repeats here at the moment.. I loved it. But Emily, and Caro, did you see him in The Escape Artist? I thought that was brilliant. What I haven't seen yet is The Politician's Husband. Haven't seen him in Hamlet but I will.

I always thought it was a clever move casting him as The Doctor! Got the mums watching again

Hmmm, DH and I weren't all that impressed. I could understand initially all the confused feelings from Clara regarding his regeneration, and the actor himself was fine, but we thought the plot was fairly basic, not up to the usual standard.

David Tennant (drool....) is my favourite, althought I didn't watch it much until then.

I am completely delighted with the new Docctor! I had high expectations and he blew right past them!

I loved David Tennant, but I fell in love with Matt Smith and now I am in love with Peter Capaldi. And so it goes...

Carol I must admit the story line was a bit average lol. I was very cynical when Clara appeared with her hair curled looking very period appropriate. How did she know how to do that??

Ms Mary, I took ages to warm to Matt Smith, but in the end I was very fond of him. I think I am going to adore PC but David still has my heart!!

Deborah, yes, Clara's hair! That bothered me, too. I kind of hoped when I saw the promos that there was going to be some crossover with Governess Clara from the snowmen, maybe...

You know, I initially had a really hard time with the Christopher Eccleston -> David Tennant switch. I rather liked Christopher Eccleston as The Doctor.

I have seen neither Hamlet nor The Escape Artist... googling...

Emily, I watched Dr Who as a kid and returned as an adult just as Christopher E was departing. I didn't mind him but didn't have time to form any attachment:). Then when he regenerated and I saw David T, I introduced Master 11 to Doctor Who and now we are both totally committed. Master 11 favours DT also, which is natural as he was the first Doctor he knew.

The Escape Artist is superb. If you can get it on DVD it is well worth it. It's a departure from Dr Who of course and from his Broadchurch character. I felt we really got to see how good an actor he was in it.

I haven't seen it yet, I'm looking for a decent copy to watch online; still miss David Tennant. Matt Smith was a bit too childlike for me.

I really need to move Dr. Who up in my queue. I'm so far behind on tv. Still trying to make it through Friday Night LIghts, Breaking Bad and Dexter. I'm a huge DT fan though. Loved him in Broadchurch and The Escape Artist. In the states, both were on Masterpiece Mystery (PBS.)

I worried about reading this thread without having watched the episode. You know, spoilers.

Glad the new doctor gets a thumbs up from most of you. I started watching Dr. Who to connect with some teenage girls I was mentoring and am now totally hooked.

Coming back to say I enjoyed the heck out of last night's episode. It looks like they are setting up a new love interest for Clara. He's very very cute!!
