Feedback requested - yellow Nanette Lepore jacket

I took home this beautiful yellow NL jacket from the Seattle YLF swap, and showed it in the last set of outfits I posted. Someone suggested it looked a bit boxy on me, and I myself have wondered whether the color and the perky little sleeves are flattering on me. I would love to make the jacket work and keep it, but only if it's truly fab on me. So I put together a few different outfits with the jacket yesterday and would love to hear your reaction:

- What works, what doesn't?
- Is the jacket a keeper?
- If so, any other suggestions for how to wear it, both in terms of colors (I tried it over white button downs, since that sounded so lovely in my mind, but it made me look super pale) and in terms of outfit combos.

Thank you thank you, my dear honest critics!

I think it's worth keeping. I think it looks great with the black outfits and the skirt (the last four outfits, counting 2 for the skirt). It fits you very well-- not too boxy at all, I think. The color may not be the best for you, but you can pull it off when you have the black shirt collar right next to your face or the funky necklaces.

I think the jacket fits fine, Antje. I like the ways you've worn it. As Patience said, it isn't the *best* color, but you have found ways to pair it with your best colors. I think it's great.

The only one I like is the one with bare arms with the black skirt.

• I think you have to keep it buttoned completely. It gets sloppy and fussy when it's left open, or with only one button done, and it loses shape. When closed all the way it looks adorable and fits you well.

• My favorite outfit is the skirt one because you let the jacket be the focus. This jacket is definitely a big statement. Adding belts and scarves and patterned sleeves is just making it look too cluttered and messy. I think the jacket can definitely work, but you'll have to keep the rest of the outfit very clean and quiet. If you're willing and able to do that, it's definitely worth keeping because the skirt outfit looks divine. I imagine you could swap out the skirt for jeans or even clams for a more casual or springy look.

• The color is not the best color ever for you, but it doesn't look bad either. I wouldn't let that be a deciding factor. I think a darker color like ink blue would look best with it and help it work with your coloring. I also like a very deep bluish purple with yellow, and apple green...and fuschia! Or any kind of dark pink.

I love them all... but if you decide not to keep it, even if it's probably not my color, let me know and I'll give it a whirl. :-)

Hee hee.... of course you have to throw in that gorgeous black top that has the cool buttons on the sleeve, that great scarf, the belt, the necklace... you have such a fab wardrobe, I'm drooling.

I think it is adorable on you with just a cami and necklace. Let the Nanette Lapore styling stand on it's own.

ITA with everything Maya said. I think it's a fantastic jacket if you wear it with simple, clean pieces.

I agree with the others about liking best the jacket done up with simple black top and beads under it, but I also like the second look unbuttoned with that great scarf with the red in it but with the skirt

I like it best buttoned up with the skirt and the necklace. I think it is more defining of your shape that way and more flattering in my opinion. It's a beautiful jacket and I hope you keep it!

I love it best buttoned with bare arms!

Bare arms and buttoned is perfect! I like yellow on you.

Thank you everyone, this has been so helpful. So bare arms and buttoned up all the way it is. The reasoning, which especially Maya expressed so well, makes a lot of sense to me. I am so used to layering short sleeved jackets over long-sleeved tops and shirts that I just did the same thing with this jacket, too. But I can see how this special jacket works great as a statement piece just by itself.

I like the skirt outfit very much myself, though I'm not sure how often I'll wear it since it seems just a tad more dressy than I'm used to. But I'll try! And I'll definitely wear the jacket buttoned and with bare arms over jeans, denim clamdiggers and black walk shorts.

Thanks again!

Yay Antje. I'm glad you're keeping it. I'll bet you come up with some fantastic outfits, that you will of course share with us.

i love the jacket, antje! i'm so glad youre keeping it - it's a stunner!

i do like it fully buttoned the best, but i think you can still do your signature long-sleeve shirt underneath! maybe a grey l/s shirt?

Thanks Shell!
I don't think I'll try a grey shirt (and I don't currently own one.) It's not a good color against my face, and since the yellow is already not my best color, I think I'll stick to the black. But I'll try someone else's suggestion of navy/ink blue.

Antje you have already gotten spot on advice about this jacket. I'm glad you're keeping it - it's quite beautiful and def. a statement piece all on its own!

I am late in responding but wanted to say that I agree with Maya 100%. It is a beautiful statement on its own and looks terrific buttoned. My favorite is with the skirt, least favorite is with the scarf. Keep and enjoy!
