Favorite places to shop for jewelry?

I'm really bored with all my necklaces, but I'm so picky about jewelry that I can never find anything I *do* like. I'm eyeing both of these:

Where are some other good, budget-friendly places to look ($25 or less)? I can't seem to search Etsy effectively so I'm just giving up on that. Forever 21 is surprisingly disappointing. What am I missing?

I saw some cute "budget friendly" pieces at JC Penney when I was in there a few weeks ago. I don't shop there (no reason, I just never really have), so was pleasantly surprised when I went in with my hubby who was looking for sneakers.

Maya, have you ever looked at Novica (novica.com)? They have some neat stuff, and in all price ranges. I love browsing but I've never ordered from them ~ yet. It's a site for artisan-made jewelry (and clothing, home decor, handbags, etc.) from around the world; I find it much easier to search than etsy.

Ive gotten some *beautiful* hand-made items from the eBay seller miss-art....she has over 800 pieces listed in her store, is incredibly nice and helpful, with a wide range of necklaces ranging in price from $10- up. ... I cant recommend her enough! I tried to put a direct link to her and it ds not working for me, but if you go to http://www.ask.com then type in stores.ebay.com/BeYounique-BOUTIQUE-CUSTOM-JEWELRY it will give the link....it only lists her as having 43 things, but go to her store and it shows over 800.....

I also forgot (gee, Im having a good day!) to say that she will happily let you pick out the length of the chain from 16/18 " up to 24" at no extra charge!

I like NY&Co. for cheap jewelry that doesn't fall apart in a week. I have a few pieces for 5- 8 years now with no tarnishing or other issues. I also have found some real gems in Target in the past year or so.

I'm sure this won't be new or different to you, Maya, but I love the 1928 jewelry at Macy's and sometimes find other interesting items in the Monet and Charter Club lines at Macy's, but then, I am kind of traditional and like the antiquey feel of this jewelry. I also like to browse through the jewelry and watches on Amazon.com, where a lot of jewelry lines have a "storefront" and where I can often get good discount deals. Apart from that, I like to shop my local boutique stores for unique items or take a closer look at what street jewelers are selling when I'm in a new city or at a crafts fair.

I love browsing etsy.com for both vintage and handmade jewelry, so I highly recommend that - don't give up just yet! I'm a big fan of search etsy for odd words/colors. Like "mustard" or "burnt", though those aren't the colors you would want. Try using adjectives to describe the style you want. It takes some time, but I've found some amazing stuff that way. Hi Maya, goodness I just had to say that I really love your collection of accessories!

Being in Aus, it obviously doesn't make sense to recommend shops, however I have read in the past that Puffenstuff has had quite a lot of success buying accessories from ebay. Could this be a potential idea for you?

Otherwise, I have found some lovely retro stuff either at markets or even the op-shops (thrift) stores. Of course, these last two require good luck and patience, but hey, you never know, right?!

I was going to suggest ASOS too. They are very good with giving you length measurements and also photos with items being modelled.

Etsy does take some time, what I normally do is add sellers and items that I like to my favourites as and when I see them, then I when I want something I shop from my favourites.

I have trouble sifting through Etsy because, and I know this is going to sound terribly mean of me, everything LOOKS handmade and amateurish, which could actually be charming if you have a folksy, art student kind of vibe to how you dress, but I don't. It always amazes me how when I do a very straightforward search, I end up with 10,000 pages of nothingness. While I respect anyone who puts the time and love into these projects, I can't say the results are compelling enough for me. They are always, always, always overly complicated, cheesy, or just not well made. I'm sure there are exceptions, but I'm not willing to sift through the thousands of results to get to them. I guess when it comes to jewelry I am a snob.

I will have to go through the rest of the links and will post if I find anything...

Maya, I make jewelry, and if you want to purchase the one you liked but think would be too long, you could send it to me and I could easily shorten the chains for you so that it could be shorter. Just let me know (no charge for just shortening some chain for you).

Maya, I have found some necklaces that I love in the Vera Wang section of Kohl's, and they are very frequently 40% off. I have also been really enjoying the Talbot's selection of necklaces lately, which have the advantage of not (ever) looking cheap but the disadvantage of being in a slightly higher price range.

Also, I second Chellebrate's suggestion of JC Penney (or, as we used to call it in high school, Jacques Penne'). Maya, I always have some to great success at Urban Outfitters, Target, Express & Charlotte Russe. And always pop in to the no-name costume jewelry stores, I have found a few gems there sometimes. I love the red flower necklace. Oh, and when you have time, go over to Diana's blog. She does (or used to) a weekly themed Etsy roundup and picks some great stuff. She also has an older post written as a guide to navigating Etsy.

I'm not ignoring everyone's replies! Just sorting through everything and will report back...

You know, I have to say, the Rack has been a major disappointment. Not just for jewelry but everything. The shoe selection is pathetic, the dresses are either flimsy knits from the juniors department, or occasion dresses. There are 3 stands of jewelry: One is all Betsey Johnson, one is all pearls, and one is Fossil and Lucky...very bohemian. Some of the stuff, while generously discounted and perfectly lovely, is still well out of my price range. I found a gorgeous Vince cropped denim jacket, but I can't afford it at $98 anyway. I guess it's just not for me. In fact I know it's not, because the only items I have bought from there so far have been gifts for other people! Maybe it's just this specific store. I'm not sure.

Maya- when a new store opens (not just Rack, but I find this for many discount stores) it will take a while for them to build up merchandise. Don't give up on Rack. My go to's are Target, Kohl's, Forever 21 (although you're right that in lately they have been less than impressive- give it a month), American Eagle Outfitters, Banana Republic Outlet, and Cost Plus World Market.

Yeah, it must be the stores. My store has a huge jewelry section, awesome shoes, and other accessories. We have at least 12 racks of jewelry. I'm like a kid in a candy store, yikes!

Our store is teeny tiny. I'm surprised it would be so small and sparse. This is NYC! It could potentially be their busiest, most successful store.

I'm not giving up on it, but I don't think I'll drop in as frequently. I've been checking in once every 10 days or so. Might go once every 3 weeks instead.

Do you have an Ann Taylor outlet? They have some nice pieces, although more classic than you might want. You might try a craft store like Michaels and pick up an inexpensive glass pendant and leather cord to put it on. They had some beautiful glass for about $3-$4 not long ago.
