Suz has given me the idea that SE Okalas may work for my upcoming special event.

I have a hard time fitting ankle strap shoes, but would like to give the Okalas a try based on the rave reviews they get here on YLF.

One huge favor that can help me decide if they're worth ordering or not -- is there anyone that owns a size 9 (preferably) or 8.5 that can tell me the ankle strap circumference to the largest hole? I am assuming I'd need all the strap I can get bc my ankles are thick.

And also if you can weigh in on sizing. I range from 8.5-9, reg / wide depending on the shoe. I usually go for the larger size when there are straps involved bc of the ankle issue. Any sizing input on the Okalas would be appreciated.

I have that same pair but in a size six and I'm not at home to measure. But I also have thicker ankles and found these to be very comfortable. Thought I'd throw that out there for what it's worth.

In this version the shoe fits a bit wider than it does in the calf hair pony print. I wear EU 37 or a 6.5 or 7 US. I own the 6.5 in the Okala. Tried the 7 and it was too large.

You might indeed have trouble with the strap if your ankle is wide. I am on the road and can't measure mine. But I usually wear on the 3rd hole.

Not sure if the heel is high enough for you either. You might still need to hem the dress. But the shoe is very very comfortable and versatile. I've worn mine multiple times in the 6 weeks I've owned them.

I am an 8.5-9 (EU40), and have these in the 9's, so will answer your question when I get home. If somebody hasn't already... I can get you any other measurements you feel are useful. Well, not on this version... I have black suede and black and white zebra.

I have pretty typical width feet, and I would say that if anything, these shoes are on the wide side. I could handle them just a smidge tighter across the ball of my foot, but I don't slide around in them.

Suz, that is my dilemma. Get a shoe that is higher heel but I won't likely be able to use again VS something like the Okala that may not be *exactly* what I want/need for the event, but that will have life after Nov 28?

I'm weighing the following factors in my decision, FWIW:
heel height
usability after event
color / combine w/gold clutch I already have
cost

Elizabeth P, you're really giving me hope. I usually can wear 8.5W or 9M. I flip between the two sizes - my foot isn't super wide needing W width all the time, so I am hoping maybe these will work. I appreciate your feedback and assistance.

Have three pair in 9.5. One --the textured gold lame with nude strap (shoe reads nude on me)-- actually ran small, is unworn, and is seeking a new home. I will post measurements os all three tomorrow when I get back home.

ETA I have generously sized feet and ankles and the Okalas DO work

It seems to matter what version of the shoe you get. I am an 8.5 and occasionally a 9 but have flat low volume feet. I have the pony hair pair in an 8.5 and they are too tight across the toes. Not a lot but just enough that they taunt me unworn from their place on my closet shelf.

I am heading home in a few minute and will measure the strap on mine when I get there. It won't hurt to have a few measures for the different materials in case there is a difference.

So interesting -- seems experiences vary. Karie posted that her two pairs were sized differently, too.

FWIW, I have two pairs of Okalas, both in the 6.5, which is the smaller of my two regular sizes. But my pony print ones are slightly more snug, even after much more wear than my brand new gold lame with nude strap (the ones Cerinda has and that were in my Finds.)

Just my opinion -- but hemming a dress is not such a difficult job. And if the shoes worked for you and were wearable afterwards, it might be worth it. Either that, or some trusty fabric tape plus a bit of "tacking" in key (but unnoticeable) spots. (Meaning just a hemstitch or two done by hand to hold the weight.)

The dress is super light. Like wad up in the suitacase, pull out, put on and wear - that kind of material. I will look into hemming but only have one tailor here (who does DH's tailoring, nothing for me to date).

Re the Okalas, interesting! I appreciate all of the help, ladies Just when you have a chance re measurements.

And Cerina, maybe those 9.5s will work for me if you are interested in selling? It's a gamble...sigh...why isn't this easier?! LOL

I wear a US 6.5 or Euro 36.5/37. The strap measurement from the last hole is 9 and 3/4 inches.

And hemming the dress will not be an issue.

I just measured my pony hair okalas in an 8.5 and the strap from where the pin is on the buckle to the loosest hole is about 10 1/4".

I have the nude Okalas in size 6. I found that they ran a bit large. My perception of the shoe is that it has a very roomy toe box despite the pointy toe. They're very comfy.

I don't own them. I wear an 8.5w (39) and was surprised that these shoes fit. Don't remember exactly why I didn't get them.

black suede size 9 (strap is leather), from bar of buckle to last hole = 10.5 inches. To end of strap = 11.75

tan/nude size 9 = 10.25. To end of strap = 11.5

And I got home and immediately started packing to go away for the weekend, and only remembered this when we were about three hours from the house. Despite sending myself a reminder message. But it looks like others have got you the size 9 measurements. Yay!

I wear shoes in size 8.5 or 9 and have a slightly narrow foot; in narrow shoes it's usually an 8.5, in regular width shoes it's usually a 9.

I have two pairs of the Okalas in size 8.5. The solid black pair measures 10 1/2 inches from the buckle to the largest hole, the black/white patterned shoe is 10 1/8 inches to the largest strap hole.

Both shoes fit the same lengthwise, but the patterned shoe is noticeably narrower. I posted about it here:

I kept the patterned pair and have worn them several times already. They did stretch a bit/mold to my foot in the toe box and have become super comfortable, even more so than the solid black pair. The toe box is roomy for a pointy toed shoe, but then again I have slightly narrow feet. I think SE shoes in general tend to run a bit narrow, as I own several other shoes by this brand and they fit my feet well.

ABC, the 9 1/2 kid Okalas have holes in the strap from 9 5/8 to 10 3/4 away from the tang. The fabric/kid ones' kid strap has holes located from 9 5/8 to 10 7/8. (The black ones are AWOL; they may be with DD at a wedding in New Orleans)
