Do you consider it a fashion fail if you only wear a piece of clothing one time? That one time it was perfect and you felt amazing in it. You just never wanted to wear it again?

Major style evolution! Look at all that bling bling and my ridiculously blown out straight hair. I'd never do that again.

I think you look fab! And if you felt fab that day, then it was a success, right? As long as it didn't really damage your budget.

BTW, if you are looking for a home for that fab top, I, uh, volunteer...

I'm actually curious that your comments were on the bling and your hair, but not the shirt . . . does it just remind you of that style you were sporting? Or is the shirt no longer a look you would don?
I do have a thing or two that didn't get worn a bunch but were great when I did wear them. Part of that was having too much in my wardrobe to get much wear out of anything before more stuff came along and/or it got outdated. I'm trying to learn from that

Hm I think the shirt looks really nice on you! It could easily be styled more to your current tastes with more current items in your wardrobe (like that pretty tan leather jacket). Of course, not saying you have to wear it again, just saying

What about a wedding gown? You only wear that one time; and you feel fab in it! So I don't think so!

Thanks Angie! Do you ever feel like you need a license in counseling when you start doing closet purges with clients?

I'm not ready to give up the cutie shirt yet. It still makes me smile even though I haven't been tempted to wear it in close to a year.

I have a few things -- some only just recently departed from my wardrobe -- that fall in this category. I have felt some guilt about them, but ultimately, it came done to the fact that my style has changed. What felt fab once does not necessarily feel fab now.

Like Angie said, it's not a failure -- it's a triumph to acknowledge what makes you feel and look great at this stage in your life! At least you're not stuck in a rut.

Rita, you are gorgeous now and you were gorgeous then. No mistakes to be seen!

Items that we purchase and seem to have a predilection for sometimes turn into immediate discards, while other pieces that are purchased as "a fix" turn into favorites in the rotation. Who knows, right?!

Your Challenge, Rita: Try remixing that blouse (an obvious orphan) into your current wardrobe. Ready? GO!

I've never had my style evolve that quickly! That would have to be almost overnight for me, as I tend to repeat "successful" outfits in a pretty short timeframe.

I'm not making any judgments on anyone else here, but....
Personally, I like my items to have longevity in my closet. I would feel that I wasted money if I only wore something once. Even when I buy something for a special occasion, I like to look into the future and see that it will most likely get a few outings over the next few years. I just don't have that much disposable income on hand.
I do have some things that have not come anywhere near my cost per wear goal, and when that happens I make a mental evaluation of why and try to not repeat the purchasing mistake.

I would feel some guilt if I bought something (non-formal wear) and only wore it once. It actually happens all the time in my closet (in fact, lots of things I NEVER wear with *major* guilt there).

Usually, if I did wear it and never go back to it again, it's because it's out of my usual style and I'm not in that mood again. . .

While on the YLF learning curve, I've also noticed that as a season comes around again a year later, it's highly likely that my style has evolved away from last year's style, or my fit criteria has become more critical than last year.

It makes for a constant flow of things in and out of my closet .

Sometimes I drive myself crazy, but mostly I enjoy the process and the newness of each fresh season. I 'm ready now for a season where I love what I already own, add just a few new items

I do have clothes I've worn only once (and sadly, a few pieces I've never worn) and it does make feel guilty.

For me personally, if I had a "one perfect outfit" day, I'd be eager to rewear it and the only thing that would stop me is if the item was damaged.

I do expect to get multiple uses out of my formalwear, including my wedding clothes. The sole benefit of the constant oneupsmanship in Indian weddings is that wearing your wedding dress to someone else's wedding is completely legitimate and expected.
