Ebay question

I am eyeing a fringe suede bag on ebay. Most of them are from outside the U.S. and it mentions the buyer being responsible for tariff's etc. Is anyone familiar with this and how much does something like that end up costing?

Not sure on this either, but thought you might also take a look at easy. I saw some very cute ones on easy. I think it adds to the joy of a handbag knowing an artist made it. Some I saw:

Thistle, those are gorgeous, but my budget is no where near that. I especially love the beadwork on that first one.

In Canada we have to pay "brokerage fees" and import taxes (our federal and provincial taxes combined) on the cost of any items, shipped from an international location, over $20.00. Sometimes they get me with it, sometimes they don't. When it comes by UPS they *always* get me. (UPS charges the brokerage fee) and if it comes by mail it's rare that I pay. Guess which way I like to order?? LOL

That's what they are talking about when they state this in the auction. It depends more on your own countries import fees than the sender and they have no control over that but have to deal with the irate buyer who wasn't expecting to pay more for their item.

I would still check around on Etsy (my spell check keeps changing that, sorry! )

Hopefully someone will know more about the tariffs and customs issue. I know we have a whole department where I work that deals with that as it is different with each country.

I don't really know how that works either, but for what it's worth, I've never had to pay for any extra fees. They always have that disclaimer, but I've ordered from Guatemala and China without any charges.
I hope someone else can provide more info though. Good luck!

I'd look at the relevant official national customs department web page for information before you order. Quite often they don't bother to check and don't charge you, but the fees can be surprisingly high depending on the item.

I think it will also depend on the cost of the item. Under a certain amount and it's likely exempt.
