Dress or silk shell? I can only get one, which?

I was very excited to see that Club Monaco has their spring clothes online now! I have a gift card left over from Christmas, and was waiting for spring. So 2 items on my list are a versatile dress and a cream silk shell. They happen to have each item, and I love them both! How do I decide? Bear with me here, have to upload the photos in 2 posts due to the dumb ipad choosing the same photo for the second one....

I prefer the dress to the shirt by leaps and bounds, but I cannot be trusted as i have a poison eye for Peter Pan collars on anyone older than 10.

Thanks. One thing I forgot to mention is that I think I need the silk shell more, but I'm also willing to get a cheap version, polyester at like $30 would suit me fine. But I cannot find ANy so far! So while I'm looking my size goes fast on CM. So I do sort of prefer to get the dress and hunt for a cheaper shell, but also, I really like this shell and have had no luck finding an alternative so far. Decisions, decisions....

More dress votes! Love the zipper detailing on it. The blouse is nice but finding an acceptable blouse seems more ubiquitous than a great dress.

Good idea Rae. I would have to wait until I visit my parents though. No CM here. I wouldn't mind waiting, just sometimes my size sells out fast.

I actually prefer the shell. And - if you only are going to have just one shell in this neutral color, you should have one in silk. It is so much more pleasant to wear, IMHO.

I agree with Rae, you won't know which fits better until you try them. If you like them both and your size sells out quickly, I'd order both. You may end up sending both back, after all! It'll also give you a little more time to look for cream shells while you wait.

The dress looks great in the photo.Very fine silk in white or cream.is divine, but I always have undergarment issues.
Also not a fan of that collar.

Both have workhorse potential. I adore silk but the dry cleaning is a pain. A polyester shell might be an easier piece. Dress is classic with a little funky zipper detail!

Nicole I don't dry clean, I have many silk shirts, they all get washed on delicate cycle then hung to dry. Works great!

Unfrumped, It appears in the photo that the top is opaque enough, because I would only want a nude bra under it...no camis. I have a long sleeves silk blouse from CM and it works fine with just a bra.

I can't make up my mind. I keep going back and forth. On the one hand I think the shell is higher on my list and would be worn more. I do like the small cap sleeve, I don't like when it's cut too high, so that's a big plus....I kind wish it didn't have buttons though. The dress is great, love the zips, but DH thinks I will barely wear it. I think it would be very versatile, but maybe I'm wishing. Man I am horrible with decisions....this is why I keep my closet to a minimum! Gah!!!

!!!Freaking out!!! Can't believe you wash silk! I have ruined stuff that way, so never again. I admire you!

Lol! Well most silk is easily hand washed I find, so my silk cycle does it for me. I have never ruined a shirt! You have to roll them in a towel after to get out the water, and then just hang to dry. They dry fast!

I do this for wool pants, wool and cashmere sweaters, and even my leather trimmed items. I've never dry cleaned an item. I'm sure I'll ruin something some day, but it seems like most things do well on the super gentle cycle.
