dress for wedding - YouLookFab Forum

I got this heavy black knit dress (Ralph Lauren at TJMaxx) for a wedding in downtown Chicago, evening wedding at a ritzy venue with 8-pc. orchestra for dancing. It will be fancy. Finally settled on these bronze sandals, bronze mini-clutch, sparkly ball earrings and this (what I consider) fantastic 5 strand necklace found on clearance rack for 1/3 the orig. price, still fairly pricey. The necklace is Kenneth Cole - I tried several necklaces with a plain black dress at the store and this one just carried the day! What do you think? Can I get away with all this matchiness in accessories?

love the dress. the neckline and sleeves are amazing on you. the necklaces, for me, visually interfere with the asymmetric neck. bangles or chandelier earrings? love the purse.

I actually have great dangly earrings that would go well, but I've pretty much given up on earrings that are any bigger than dots or studs due to my new glasses. I always feel overdone with bigger earrings now.

I do love the necklace (and since it's mixed metals I don't think it's matchy) but the neckline would look great alone too. Do you have bracelet options? The dress seems to fit you very well and is the perfect LBD!

how about wrapping the necklace choker style, or wrap it around your wrist? that necklace is super fab too. i just prefer the neckline to be the star.

Absolutely gorgeous LBD! The fit and the neckline are so flattering for you. I know exactly what you mean about larger or dangling earrings with glasses - I don't do it either and I don't think Angie does either. It's just too much going on around the face! I do love the idea of no necklace so that gorgeous neckline can shine, and wearing instead a fairly good sized bracelet or cuff and maybe a cocktail ring...tasteful and gorgeous!

Hmm. I see what you all mean about the necklace detracting from the neckline, but I wasn't feeling the neckline alone was detracting enough from the tummy area.

I actually don't mind the necklace with the neckline. They don't compete to my eye... how do you feel about it?

The dress looks elegant, shoes are lovely (I'd do a bold metallic polish - or a rich jewel tone!), clutch is fab - I'm wondering if the long drapey necklaces look a little too casual? It may just be a matter of personal taste. I agree you need lots of shine and shimmer for a formal event, but perhaps one stunning pendant (gold, to match your accessories - or add colour with sapphire or emerald) would make it more formal? Play around with a couple more neckpieces and see what feels best! (I could be totally off-base anyway.)

Ooh - and I agree, add a gorgeous bangle, cuff, or stunning dressy watch.

Gorgeous dress! It is the perfect LBD with the interesting neckline. I support Transcona Shannom on trying a statement bracelet and a cocktail ring. THe necklace is really great, but I too feel that the neckline and shouldera are wonderful alone. You shine!

I really think this looks fantastic as is. It's true that if you didn't wear the necklaces, it would show off the dramatic lines of the dress even more, but it looks great this way too! Sounds like a fun occasion!

you know, the dress is so gorgeous and flattering on you that i do not notice a tummy, even in retrospect. second the big cuff idea if you want bling. or a fancy brooch on the right shoulder for something different.

you will wow them at the wedding, regardless of your accessory choice.

I think it looks great with the necklace. I enjoy a little visual "tension" in outfits. I think it makes them more intriguing. I think visual tension in outfits is like a bitter flavor in foods. It can be really challenging and interesting and pleasurable, but not everyone will like it. (I like simple and uncluttered too!) You are going to look great either way!

My first thought is PERFECT just like you styled it! The dress could NOT fit you or flatter you any better. LOVE the asymmetrical neckline--so hip! The necklace is gorgeous and I see no problem with it competing with the neckline. I think they complement each other and give the eye just enough to look at. The sandals and clutch are to. die. for. Srsly, I think you did a bang-up job and I hope you have a blast at the reception!

Love all your accessories and in fact I had to read all the comments to see what others said about styling the assimetrical neck, as I do have a LBD almost the same as yours, just 3/4 sleeves and a cascade ruffle on one side, down to the hem. thanx for posting. Gorgeous dress and fits you so well! I personally would not wear a necklace with this dress because of the neckline but is it really a personal preference and it looks great with the necklace too.

I do understand the point of those who feel the necklace and neckline compete a bit, but I actually think both are simple enough that they work together.

[In fact I might be tempted to add a cocktail ring for a little extra sparkle when you're raising a glass to toast the couple.]

Since you mentioned dancing I *will* say that depending on whether you'll be indulging and depending on how wild a dancer you are, that necklace could be a danger. If hat's likely to be the case, the suggestions upthread for alternatives would put safety AND style first.

Stunning. I prefer the dress with the necklace for the wedding as I feel it softens it up. In another scenario I think I would prefer it without.

Great dress with so many options and the fit is so perfect.
