I really like this dress from J. Crew (big surprise, I know):

My question is about what color to get it in? I'm tempted to go with my old standby, navy, because I want to be able to layer a cardigan or jacket over it and wear it into early fall (around the end of September). I really like the green though, and I don't have anything green, really. The strawberry is out because I just bought another dress from J. Crew that is almost the same color. Which should I get?

My second question is about this dress (also from J. Crew, hee hee):

I like it in the rhubarb color, and the little ruffly collar really appeals to me. I know it's sort of a "shift" shape, so I would definitely need to wear it with a belt. It's short too, so I think I would wear it as a tunic over jeans, if it ended up being too short to wear as a real dress. Should I get it or take a pass this time?

The first one is lovely! Get the green, it's gorgeous!
The second one I would need to see on first. I would bring a suitable belt to the store with me and try it on like that to make sure the material does not bunch, cause it looks a bit baggy.

The second dress is online only, so I'd have to order it. I could easily order it and return it at the store though, and then I don't have to pay any shipping costs.

Bummer! Oh well, then you can do exactly as you suggest!

I like the green dress also. Get that color. The second dress is cuter. How tall are you? Remember, that model is probably pretty tall, maybe it would be a little longer on you and you could wear it as a dress. I don't know if I would buy it just to wear over jeans, unless you do wear that style a lot. I would think that the dress would stick to the jeans when you walk. I have never worn a dress over jeans. How do you prevent that from happening?

So, I went to J. Crew today and they had the green dress, so I tried it on. The color is wonderful--it's really more of a deeper emerald green than what they show online. However, the style of the dress just didn't work on me. I was so disappointed! I think my chest is just too big for it. It didn't come all the way over my chest enough so that the pleating in front draped nicely and closely to my body, so it just made me look heavy, or like maybe it was a maternity dress. I think it would be fabulous on someone with a smaller chest (mine isn't even that big, really). Oh well. So the search continues for a fabulous and machine washable summer dress.

They do have a light weight V-neck cardigan in the same green color (which I fell in love with). I'm putting that on my list.

The print is nice and I love the color. The cap sleeves probably wouldn't be a good choice for me, since I have bigger upper arms and a very strong shoulder line. This is the biggest problem I have with BR stuff this season--lots of cap and/or puff sleeves. A true sleeveless with a thicker strap would be more flattering.

I've been checking out Macy's, but haven't found anything there so far. I think I need to go to the bigger Macy's at the mall, since the one near me has a very small dress section. I'll also check out Nordie's when I go.

Thanks! I definitely will let you know if I find a great dress. You do the same (I'm eagerly awaiting my VS shirt dress). Oh, by the way, I went by White House Black Market and saw the printed black and white tunic you got, it looks even better in person. Can't wait to see the outfits you put together with it (white skinnies will look great!).

I certainly will Ana. I hope you'll like VS dress. Glad you like the b&w tunic. I 'm yet to get white skinnies. I've spent more than I should have on my shopping trip few days ago so the white skinnies will have to wait for my tax refund check. I hope it arrives soon.

Ana, I like that first dress in green; in fact, I was eyeing it online last night. I have a small chest, so I wonder how it would look on me. Hmm.

Katie, you should go try it, and let us know how you fare. It's a really soft dress, and it drapes very nicely. It's in stores, too, so if you are close to a J. Crew, it will probably be there.

There is a J. Crew nearby, so I'm going to plan to go in two weeks (the soonest I'll be able to go, unfortunately. Hopefully it's still in stores.).
