Double denim and leopard

Okay here it all is in all it's glory. I think the picture got taken in sepia tone by accident.

I probably wouldn't wear this exactly as is, but you get the idea. When considering breaking the denim jacket with jeans "rule", I realized it doesn't look as "rodeo" (that's cowboy rodeo--not Rodeo Drive) as I feared.

I like it! (And I am usually not a fan at all of denim on denim.) I think the double dose of leopard actually helps break up all the denim a bit. Very well done!

Thanks everybody! Like I said, I might not go out the door exactly like this....I think it needs some color or some more contrast somewhere, but it's nice to give myself "persmission" to wear these together if I need to.

Yes, Suz! I got the scarf and the jacket at Old Navy. I was afraid you didn't have access to one. It was fate. I was killing time until TJMaxx opened. I walked in and saw the sign "Cropped Denim Jackets" and grabbed the X-small and the small (there were only one of each) and headed to the dressing room. I saw the scarf on my way and snagged it too.

I ended up with the small. The x-small was not broad enough in the shoulders and the sleeves were really really tight. ( I liked the way it fit in the torso, though, being small busted). It was marked at $39.99US and I was hesitating. It was not in my budget or on my list.

I wore it out of the dressing room with the scarf on to put the x-small back on the rack. Just then, some other shoppers caught sight of me and started saying, "Oh, I like that!" and they all wanted to try one on. I panicked since I had the last of my size and bought it because I was afraid not to!

Now there is no way it's going back if YOU like it Suz! I think you might be able to wear the x-small. My bust is 33" but my shoulders are 40" around so that's why I needed to size up....but it does have some stretch which makes it really comfortable.

Oh, and when I checked out, my receipt says "item discount" and it only rang up at $29.99US! Yay! The scarf was $12.94US.

Great look! Like Mo, I'm generally averse to double-denim, so this is out of my comfort zone, but I can see from your outfit how it can work to perfection.

I likey! I don't think you need to add more color since the double leopard adds the visual interest. Also right now all the horizontal lines are subtle since the colors blend.

This totally works. The long top provides relief between the two denims. Love that scarf! Here's a somewhat color-corrected pic so everyone can see it al better.

I have resisted opening this thread because I thought it would be hard to like the look. I am surprised because I totally like it. I don't think you need more color. I think it works because there is interest and separation between the dark denim pieces. Well done. It isn't easy to take a WNTW and make it work well.

As yet another who generally isn't a fan of denim on denim,I have to say that you have shown how very well it can be done! You look great and could absolutely wear it out of the house just like this no additional color or contrast needed (though I'm sure you could work it that way as well).

Thanks, Claire! I think the small might actually work for me, too, because my shoulders are about 39" around, so pretty close to yours.

In my on paper measurements I sound like an IT, but IRL the impression is somehow a bit different—more rectangle/slim hourglass. So weird how that works!

I saw it on sale for $25 CAN online and can order and return if it doesn't fit at no cost, so what the heck!

Suz: You will be fine with the small. I know what you mean about your almost IT measurements. It's a fine line with many of us. For my secondary body type I wanted to put "All of them" for my designation. I have apple tendencies with my tummy, I have a slight hourglass curve, by hips are bigger than my bustline, so in that I'm like a pear, and I have to avoid recangular cut tops unless I want to look like a rectangle!

As for the outfit, when I put all of this on, my first reaction was, "If I saw a woman in the store with this on, I would not cringe, or maybe even notice that she was breaking rules." Maybe because of the low contrast thing. Thanks for all of your kind comments everyone!

Looks cute! To me it works because it reads as a monochromatic outfit, with pattern/color accents coming from the two leopard pieces. That scarf is awesome by the way, looks really lovely next to your hair!

Thanks Aida! I was specifically looking for a leopard scarf with tones that echo my coloring. I was trying to avoid any orange or gold tones. This one has black, grey and taupe- YAY! The shoes have an orange-y copper background, but they're not next to my face so that doesn't bother me.
