I found this article when I was poking around pinterest and was amused that I like almost all the "don't" looks as much or more than the "do" looks. Particularly the one below. Ah well, à chacun son goût!

I kind of do too. I especially love wearing boyfriend cardigans with dresses that have fuller skirts.

Emily, i agree with you. Her don't seem to be the most current way to wear them. Either that or i've drunk too much of the ylf koolaid. Pass me another glass, please.

I think the "do"s did look a lot better than the "don't"s. Perhaps I need more koolaid?

It seems she mostly likes cardigans with skinny jeans. Seems pretty limited.

Yes, I must say I agree. And agree about her rules not being fashion-current.

For instance, I liked the short over long and the bfs with the blanket cardigan. I didn't like the long cardigan over the full skirt (interference) and the bulky sweater and short skirt/pencil skirt (contradiction/hidden skirt).

It did occur to me that this girl was talking about being stylish within a pretty conventional framework. I mean, I could see her making baked mac-and-cheese for a guy-guy, and them sitting down to eat it and talk about how they both believed in strong, independent girls... and them both largely picking strong, independent girls out of the crowd by picking girls with long, straight hair and wearing jeans... which isn't that bad a way to do it, as it probably gets you just the right amount of strong and independent... but *is* a logical nightmare...

Thanks for posting this link, I got a kick out of it. I agree with the others' assessments that the article is outdated. Not even just that, but it makes the assumption that what is "flattering" to shape or proportion is the same for everyone.

It's also funny how the "don't" photos are taken from less flattering angles and poses.

I had to laugh at the first jeans style described as "not fitted". Oh, yeah, those are really WIDE jeans....were these guys born yesterday?

I love that Aztec sweater with the the skinny boyfriends.

@Amy - Ha - I also thought this would be better titled "How I like to wear Cardis with Skinny Jeans"

And similar to @rachylou, I make up stories about people I don't understand to try to make sense of things.

I think all of these looks were pleasing, save for the full skirt with the long grandpa cardigan. Maybe her eye just needs to get adjusted to a little bit more volume?

Interesting. Makes me feel like cardis are way more difficult to style than I thought... I tend to avoid, except for waterfall styles that are admittedly a bit old hat now, but generally flattering and easy to wear.

I think this is an excellent example of Just Flattering Enough versus Conventional Flattery. Many of us here can see the value in the JFE ("don't") versions, but I think that most women would still be uncomfortable with many of them.

I too liked the "don'ts," except for the longer cardi over the full skirt. Oh, and the boyfriend cardi with the pencil skirt looked a little strange, but I think that might have had more to do with the colors and patterns.

I think she does have a very good foundation idea, which is that pairing voluminous and fitted is a great way in general to put together a flattering outfit. I think her boyfriend jeans are pretty fitted, though, so I would classify those on the edge of fitted; I didn't think they looked bad with the drapey Aztec cardi (although I do think that the skinny jeans looked even better).

I'm with Gigi. The longer cardi over the full skirt wasn't too good, but I really liked all her other "don't" looks. I especially like the short cardi over the long top. Her "do" looks are quite conventional and safe, and you certainly can't go wrong following her advice. But I'm a kool-aid drinker, I guess!
