I had my two top front teeth done when I was 15. My father worked at a hospital and he offered it to me one day, saying the dentist at the hospital would do it. I think it was free? Or low cost to my father. Otherwise, there's no way he would've offered! My teeth were chipped on all corners so they looked almost sharp. (I fell a lot riding my bike!)
It's been 25 years and I still love them. But, I fear the day when they fall off or loosen! I have no idea how much it will cost to replace. Also, my teeth were shaved down to nubbins, and I remember well the sensitivity of living like that for a couple of weeks while the veneers came in. I had to wait an extra week because I ended up needing a whiter set than was originally ordered. Back then, they told me it was the lightest color possible, but I'm sure now it looks quite dark compared to the blinding white teeth people can get!
The gap between the veneer and gum is getting more pronounced, but isn't noticeable unless I look very closely.
FWIW, I would be more scared to mess with enamel. I had a molar shaved down a tiny bit to correct my bite/TMJ, and that tooth is now unbearably sensitive. I can't even eat lettuce on that side. A new dentist told me that the old dentist took off too much enamel, and now I'm stuck with it.
