Did Someone Say Something About Shopping for an Imaginary Lifestyle?

So...I'm currently yearning for a pair of sequined pants. I prefer the wider-legged versions over the leggings. I really love the harem style best, but just know they would look terrible on me.

You can laugh now. I certainly am.

Could I possibly wear something like that to my sister-in-law's wedding, which will take place this fall in Las Vegas? Could I wear something like that with a cropped tuxedo jacket? Is it ok to wear black to a wedding in Las Vegas, or do I have to stick to lighter/brighter colors?

Are my cold meds making me crazy?

She's getting married by Elvis, so I imagine almost anything goes fashion-wise. (I'm a little perplexed at the ultra conventional gown she selected though.) Or, does the venue not matter so much and I should stick to regular old wedding guest attire?

Talk me down, people.

When I attended a Vegas wedding, the bride wore a black minidress and thigh-high boots... I think any thing goes! Kind of a perfect occasion to indulge your imaginary lifestyle.

ETA: Ah, you mentioned your sister will go the ultratraditional route, dress-wise...so now I'm thinking maybe for the wedding do a beautiful cocktail dress, then bust out the sparkly pants for any ensuing parties/festivities! I hate to sound like a cop-out, but it's good to consider the fact that this is a MAJOR event for dear sis, so safer than sorrier...? Just my timid two cents! HAVE FUN, regardless!

Helen, I'll be sure to run the idea past my sister-in-law first, because it is her day and I want to respect that. Still...my family has come to expect a little bit of zany from me at family functions and I don't want to disappoint them.

That's about as good an opportunity for something like this as you're likely to have! Life is short, and fashion is for fun- DO IT!
No problem with wearing black to weddings anymore- and certainly not in Vegas.

I really like the harem pants, and you're on the right track with the cropped tux jacket.

Love the 2nd outfit. I have seen people wear black to weddings ...even traditional ones.

If you are close enough to your sister in law I would ask her about her expectations, I married Ben in Vegas in 2004, it was an evening wedding and the guests mostly wore cocktail attire; there were a few sequins in attendance and a kilt.

The fact that your SIL has chosen a traditional gown may mean the wedding could still be fairly traditional, however I am keeping my fingers crossed you will be able to wear the sequin harem trousers.

Amy - this might be your big chance for 'imaginary' to become 'real' ?! IF you think you can feel comfortable thru the entire ceremony and festivities (i.e., not start wishing you had dressed differently), and not try to figure when you might wear 'it' again, that is!

Amy, I'm crossing my fingers that even if you can't wear them for the wedding "proper" that there will be some other occasion related to the wedding when they'd be the perfect thing.

Face it...you, with legs that go on forever, were born to wear pants like this, and this is the time to do it! I say go for it!

Thanks ladies! If my SIL says ok (I'm betting she will), then I'll probably give it a go, but I hope you'll all give me no holds barred critiques when I post a keep or return post.

Parsley, I might try sewing them, although I understand sewing on most sequined fabric is a nightmare; however, finding pants that fit is another nightmare, so I'm not sure which nightmare I'm going to choose.

I might test the waters with a pair of non-shiny harem pants first

I honestly can't see why this would be inappropriate for a wedding unless it were daytime. I think you could make this into a super fun and elegant look. I am all for it.

I'm going to live vicariously through you so you must get some sequin pants! I overdid on sequin tops this season and bought an allover sequin dress, but haven't found the right skirt, and would not think twice if the right pair of pants came up (I don't have the lifestyle for any of these either by the way). I'd take advantage of the trip to Vegas to wear those babies with pride.
