Did anyone else have technical issues with their T-day outfits?

I hope everyone had a marvelous Thanksgiving full of good friends, family and marvelous food!! This year I chose to wear Eileen fisher's black skirted leggings, a black tank and EF black translucent poncho and the Jeffery Campbell slashed and distressed Alexia booties. The poncho is swingly with subtle horrizontal striations which I thought echoed the slashes on the boots. I felt comfortable, elegant and did not over heat. My one unexpect problem was that when I would lean over to wash dishes (try not to but did sneak in a few) the poncho would want to flop into the sink. Not a huge problem - I had to stand straight, catch the hem between my body and the sinks edge, and then could work without an issue. However, I had to reposition each and every time I did this. I did feel comfortable and elegant but I would not choose to "hostess" in this outfit again. Did anyone else have unexpected technical issues with their outfits?

I wore a tunic length flannel shirt and leggings. It was comfortable for the 1 hour car trip to the in-laws house and convenient for nursing my newborn. However, I forgot that when all my husband's family is together (15-20 people), my in-laws house gets really hot. I should have dressed in layers so I could have shed clothes when the indoor temps heated up. I was so warm that I joked with DH that I'm going to wear shorts at Christmas.

My only technical issue was one I knew about going in... my awesome, gorgeous, sexy two-tone high-heeled pumps are almost impossible to walk in, even for me, the Queen of High Heels. I wore them to take my outfit photo and to hobble from the house to the car and the car to the restaurant, and the rest of the day I wore my comfy slippers!

I wore simple black slim leg pants and a velvet tunic length button up shirt in burgundy. And leopard print and black suede wedges. My technical difficulty was the same as Sara's, getting too warm. So later in the day I changed into a lightweight cotton tunic. It was just my immediate family with us so I didn't mind forgoing style for comfort!

Gryffin. Those EF pieces are gorgeous!

When I sat on the doorstep to watch the kids toss the football my layering tee pulled out of my low-for-me jeans. When I tucked it back in it stayed, though.

The dressy scarf I was wearing kept sliding around on my sweater. Finally I just took the dang thing off! (The scarf not the sweater!)

I wore boot cut jeans, a long sleeve chartreuse tee, and a hand knit vest made of Noro yarn in silk and wool. It was fine until evening when the vest started irritating the back of my neck. It had never done that before. I couldn't wait to take it off.

Sara - I feel you pain on overheating. I've done that before too. Nothing like feeling you are roasting along with the turkey!
Mary - ouch!! Sorry to hear about the shoes. I wanted these tsubo booties that they wore on the runway and ordered them. I could stand for about 30 seconds and my left patella felt like it was going to pop and yet I debated for about 5 min about keeping them. So cool!! So I really get the temptation!!
Susie- Yup temperature control is key. I have changed too on previous ocassions!! Better comfortable!! Thanks, I really like the EF pieces practical but fun!
Adelfa - I hate when that happens and I am a big tucker. Glad things stayed put second time around!!
Deb - Congrats!! At least someone has it down!! Kudos!!
Karie - I didn't wear a scarf purposely. Even if they are short too much risk of splatter. You were smart for bailing!!
JAilleen - Sorry to hear about the vest. I have had that happen on something that I had not worn too long before I hope you can style it so that it does not bother you. Very pretty soft colors!

We went to my brother and sister-in-laws and I wore a light colored sparkly linen top, jeans, and a light leather jacket. Like others, I got warm at the party, and took off my jacket. When I looked in bathroom mirror, I realized that my top wasn't completely opaque, and when I had gotten dressed in my party garb earlier, I had forgotten to change into a light colored bra. It was peeking out from under my cami in a few places. My husband said that it looked fine, but I ended up putting my jacket back on and suffering the heat.

traveling for tgiving then going directly to a business meeting. i did not pack enough non-business outfits so i did not have an appropriately dressy without being business-y outfit for dinner.

a bigger fail, at the business meeting, i have a black tie event that i completely did not pack for because i was only notified that i am going as a plus one.

Toooo funny everone! Thanks for sharing. I did ok at this one. I knew I would be helping with dishes so I wore 3/4 sleeves.

Marmee - you poor thing!! That's just the worst. Even if no one else notices you are just not comfortable. I would have chosen to roast too!!
Bj- Wow, sorry to hear about the trip. I think we all have one of those in memory where you just did not have the right stuff. Sorry it was so uncomfortable. At least it's the old, this too shall pass and no one but you will remember. Big hugs.

Well, I admit I don't like the stiffness of denim - and my jeans were stiff denim. And my shoes were a bit pinchy because I wore socks because I was afraid of cold feet - and also, because they're platforms, they don't bend when you walk.

But you know, it was a sit down affair, so most of the time I didn't notice these things.

Rachylou - wow, stiff denim and tight shoes. That was really brave. T-day means stretch or loose to me. But at least you were sitting so glad you did not seem to uncomfortable!! Next year stretch denim

knowing I was the chief cleaner - chef- and hostess I picked my outfit for the day more as gear than fashion.... skinny jeans (so I wouldn't eat too much) - teal boatneck 3/4 sleeve t (for cooking and dishes) - wide belt (to hold up the jeans as I ran around like a crazy woman) - flat comfy black mocs (until 2 minutes before all the family started to arrive) - at the last moment added...... teal suede wedges and a multi-colored Indian silk scarf (which now needs a gravy stain removed). The wedges were comfy enough to wear during hors d'oeuvres and dinner - but I switched back to the mocs for clean-up and board games after dinner!!

dustt- You were so brave to put on a scarf as a hostess!! I shudder to think of what I would have gotten over one. Kudos to a single gravy stain, I would have been covered. I was in the same boat hostess -wise and it's that trade off what is washable, practical, cool but looks nice. You are clearly much braver (teal suede wedges -danger!! Danger!! What a girl to have gotten through unscathed!! I would have had all manner of "stuff" on mine!!) I applaud and bow down to your sartorial standards of excellence in the face of gravy etc. I hope the stain comes out but I am sure you looked awesome!!

thx griffin - the wedges were for greeting and socializing only - luckily they escaped unscathed (the dog licked off the lone spill on the toes)!! - I think I got all of the gravy out of the silk scarf!! - luckily it has random ombre mixed stripes so I'm thinking that even if I didn't completely remove it - the stripe pattern should camouflage any permanent damage!! - I felt a bit underdressed - but what's a girl to do in the face of all those dishes and too many people in the kitchen!!!!

dustt - I am totally surprised you felt underdressed. Your outfit sounds lovely and the silk scarf, the teal of the shirt and wedges wound like dressy elements. Does your group dress up? Gosh, I can't get my friends to do that. I once made a black tie dinner and my friends came in jeans!! Glad to hear the scarf is doing well!! and don't you loves the doggy clean up committee!! My pups think its a gift from the great doggy beyond when spills occur. They are only too happy to do the clean up/taste test thing!!

I managed to drag the hem of my new black and white wool cardigan into something orange. No idea what it is (probably sweet potato casserole) but there are still a couple of small orange marks on it. I don't really want to wash the whole thing so tomorrow I am going to try dabbing the spot with dish soap.

Also, my socks kept scrunching down in my shoes until my knee-high socks were all bunched up under my foot! Most annoying but I had my hands full carrying food to the potluck so I had to just put up with it.

griffin - you made me laugh on the doggy great beyond - mine too is our own drooling, breathing vacuum cleaner!! - It wasn't really "dressed-up" - but more of a smart casual day - my grown nieces, who have great fashion sense always do me the honor of wearing something a bit upscale, which coerces my daughters(also grown and pretty fashionable themselves) to step up their game!! - I was definitely the only one in a knit tee - although a nice knit tee!!

Mander - sleeves. Dangerous things. So annoying esp when it's new (ps that's basically a trademark maneuver for me ). Hope it comes out without a problem. I am thinking donation for those pesky socks. Nothing more irritating than sock drift. You were a trooper and I hope you had a great holiday despite the irritants!
Dustt - you are way too hard on yourself. It's so much easier to glam it up when you are not the chief cook and bottle washer !! Sweat, grease, gravy just don 't go with silk!! I think you made a great outfit choice. Just wait till your daughter and nieces host - they will be hanging up their 4" platforms and stocking up on all things washable and flame retardant!! PS drooling vacuum cleaning fur baby sounds divine!!

I got butter on my new nubuck shoes Shame on me for wearing them while cooking, but I was trying to multitask and break them in.

Scarlet - so sorry to hear about the shoes!! Were you able to get the grease out? I have ruined many a fine garment cooking. So I stick with washable and wipeable (if that's a word!!) Good luck with your clean up. Hope it comes out!!

Hi Gryffin, Sorry for checking in so late. I couldn't completely get the marks out but it's not so bad that I can't live with it. Maybe if I had treated it right away I could have done better, but we were on a clock I still love the shoes, and I guess now I can't ruin them, so I can wear them with abandon.

I've heard flour can get grease out. I don't know if you want to try it on your shoes, though.

Scarlet - so sorry to hear the stain did not come out. JAileen that is an interesting thought. Who was it who just mentioned flour? It was on another thread and they got the stain out almost perfectly. I'll check it out and link back if I find it. There is always a bright side, as you point out, Scarlet. Now you are in the no fear zone of shoe enjoyment. Question? Can you and would you want to duplicate? Also did you spray your shoes first? I have done that but it's never worked well for me but I know people who swear by it. Good luck and hope the flour works!!

Now her jacket was white so I don't know what that would do to the color but I thought you might want to read the post. I never heard of doing this. So good to know!!

Such great stain removal tips!

Guess I did have a technical glitch: I wore sandals, and shortly after arriving stubbed the big toe of my right foot just enough to very visibly chip dark red polish of new pedicure.

I doubt that anyone noticed, but I hate walking around that way.
