Denim skirt (keeper or not) plus one orphan

I stumbled across this dark denim skirt which was not something I was after *at all*, but I liked it a lot, it has nice contrasting stitching, lots of stretch, is very comfortable and looks quite good on. However, I dawned on me that hadn't seen many denim skirts around here and I'm wondering why. Is it too casual? Old fashioned?

Also, I'm a bit stuck for ideas. I can see it with turtleneck, nice hose and boots... some scarf or necklace... and... anything else ?

If you think it's a keeper, how abut throwing in some ideas

Also, this black top has been unworn for 12+ months and I'd like to know if it's worth returning to rotation. I am not sure about the neckline and what it makes to my shoulders appear like when I wear it?

Stella McCartney made a fortune selling her version of her late mother's 70's
button front denim skirt. I like the one you found loads better. In the picture,
it looks graceful. It may just be the photo angle but I think someone could
suggest a better top for it.

I love that skirt! Full disclosure: I happen to like denim skirts, and all things girly for that matter.

I think that the dark denim makes it very versatile; it can go very casual to smart-casual. It looks like it fits you well too. That top seems like a good basic, but I'm not loving it with that skirt (or perhaps it's just not the most flattering style on you?)

I'm thinking maybe an untucked top, loose fit with a skinny belt might work well. You'll have to experiment, but I say keep the skirt

For what it's worth, I just wore my dark denim a-line skirt 2 days ago, so you aren't alone! On the other hand, I am sooooo early in my style journey that sometimes I don't even trust my own opinions.

I love how your legs go on fooooooorrrrrreeeeeeeevvvvvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrr in that skirt; I can see why it called out to you!

I think this skirt definitely has some potential! I'd love to see a colorful blouse tucked in with wedges for the warmer weather and then love the idea of a turtleneck and boots when it cools off. I have a dark denim pencil skirt that I really like! I also like the neckline of this shirt, but if you haven't worn it in a year, maybe figure out why. I would see if you can pair it up with a few things, but if not, go ahead and get rid of.

I think it's a keeper too. Lots of denim skirts in action around here (I think). But agree a different top would work better. I like the top, nice and basic just not with this skirt.

The skirt looks really good on you. I perosnally think it works beacuse it's a darker denim and has the detailing. I like Amy's suggestions above for styling it in the summer and your idea of boots and a turtleneck in winter is a good one.
The top is a good basic but I agree that there is just something off about the neckline to my eye. I think the 'v' is a little shallow for you and you would suit a slightly deeper 'v'.

KEEPER. It's so cute! I have a skirt kind of like it, but mine is a pencil skirt, I wear it with a button up blouse and kitten heels, and to dress it down I wear a peasent blouse and gladiator sandals with a scarf. It can also be used in the winter with knee-highs or patterned/colored tights and boots! It's very verstile and so great. Love!

Thanks for your suggestions everyone, the skirt is a definite keeper by the sound of things and I have some good starting points for styling it.

I'm still on the fence about the top, I'll try a few things and see how it goes.

Love the skirt. I think its a keeper. I struggle with what to wear with a denim skirt. I have a great one but never wear it.

That's a great skirt. Try a graphic tee with a black boyfriend blazer, a Chanel type striped knit top, polkadots, a wrap top, a well fitted button-down shirt maybe out and belted if it isn't too long.

Love the skirt! It's very dressy for denim so it will be really versatile, and the vertical stitching is really flattering. I can see it working well in Autumn with boots and jacket and a long pendant. FWIW, I'm ambivalent about the top....perhaps you could try it with pants? Or as a layering item? Best, Lynne xx

The problem with the top as I see it is that the v-neck is not open enough. Needs to be deeper and wider for the most flattering look. I'd get rid of it unless you think you'll use it layered under a jacket and scarf combo and then the neckline doesn't matter.
