Sigh. I really just don't know about pricing these days. Like, why do they make 3-D movies and charge $14? Why do I want to pay extra to see a blurry picture? In the early '90s, handmade shoes were $800. I could maybe just wrap my head around $1600 for handmade 20 years later, but $3000 for ready-to-wear?

But I'm not down with the principles of conceptual art either.

Any insight into why prices are rising? Are they changing where items are manufactured? You have exquisite taste, Anna, but I still don't blame you for setting bounds. Maybe if enough people stop buying, prices will come back down.

Actually, was it through a link here on the board to a certain article? Was it Manolo Blahnik that was talking about keeping prices reasonable and not going after the crazy price-tag heights?

This is another for Una's thread about fashion pipe dreams - because I don't find Manolos that comfortable to wear - but the article perked my interest back up in them. I respect a certain restraint.

Isabel Marant just blew up in terms of hits and name recognition last season. I suppose she is now cashing in on that. I do wonder, though, whether the recognition will automatically translate into consumers being willing to put out that much extra cash for her designs. She may have been hugely popular last year, but I still wouldn't put her on par with other designers in that price category.

The prices to seem outrageous. I would like to hear why and how they justify the prices. Is it the cost of the fabrics, the construction etc etc. It would be very interesting to know just what the mark up on their items is.

Wow. Maybe the jacket is hand made. If so, the price would be justified. And maybe those are very. special. ponies.

The jacket in particular is gorgeous. The boots are gorgeous, too, but right now I have a poison eye for tall boots after my failure to find any that work on my stubby calves.

That seems kind of over the top doesnt it. I must say that since I have started making my own clothes I can appreciate the work that goes into making a garment look good, but I dont know about $2000 good. It would have to be something exceptional for that price. I think Echo is right and that with her name comes a high price tag now, time to find some new designers to lust over Anna.

Even if it were handmade, you still need to ask where... So much handmade stuff is sent out of India that starts out dirt cheap. My pet peeve is when they come back tagged at 10 times the cost of the round trip.

It's just about the tag all to often. Sounds suspiciously like the case here.

I have noticed this phenomenon before on labels I like. They start out affordable and raise prices if they get popular I am hoping that they also coincided with use of better material or something...I think only Victoria Beckham is the only one I ever noticed going for the top prices right out the door. (in my fashion awareness lifetime that is)

I cannot imagine, as we have discussed before, that once prices go over a certain level, the pieces are really worth it.

Acne has some pistol ponyskin boots this year...I actually am considering them, well, not the pony version, the regular leather. They are only bootie height though.
