Dashielle's Eileen Fisher dress

After seeing this Eileen Fisher dress in a glorious raspberry on Dashielle I was inspired to try it myself. Not quite the same eye popping effect, but I think it looks ok on me.

We have a party to attend Friday and a couple of weddings this summer. I love the cobalt, which is much nicer in person than on the website, but feel the black is more sensible.

My husband wondered why I don't just keep both, but I really doubt they would get enough wear to justify the expense.

I don't think there will be much styling involved other than perhaps hose to help disguise the blemishes on my legs, and deciding on which shoes and bag.

What do you think, do I have a keeper?

I love the cobalt on you! The color really pops against our skin tone and hair. I could easily see it working at weddings. The black is also fine but you're right that it comes across as more sensible. Which isn't a bad thing, but for a nice dress, I feel you should go with the one that makes you excited to wear!

It does look fabulous on you, Pil! It's a hard choice between black and blue, but the blue is such a stunning color, and if it's one you like, I'd keep that one. EF might come out with a long-sleeved version in black, or a similar one, which could be good for cooler weather.

I also love the cobalt - the black is great too, but doesn't have quite the impact as the cobalt. Either way, you can't lose on this one, it looks great!

COBALT!! Having met you in person, I know exactly how that colour will flatter your hair and skin. Please keep that one. It looks lovely!

Also, more fun for a wedding.

The black is great, too, and if you need a LBD, keep it as well.

Cobalt from me too! But, I think the black is wonderful as an LBD and can work for many occasions. I'm with Hubby - why not keep both!

I like the cobalt best as well. However they look like dresses that could be worn every day as well as polished up for going out, so if you're the type to wear dresses frequently you might as well have two that look good on you.

They're significantly different dresses in the two different colors. I'm wondering if your husband prefers the black? The cobalt is beautiful on you and very flattering but the black is too..
It seems like such a classic style, it's hard to believe you wouldn't be just as happy to have it next year too. Maybe you could wear the cobalt since you like that one best? Leave the tags on the black but hang it in your closet and see if the occasion for wearing it arrives sooner than you think?

Love that dress on you. I have 2 of these dresses. The black and a purple color. I love them both. Love the cobalt on you. I bought the black one thinking I might not get as much use out of it. I wear it everywhere. If you can keep them both I would. I don't think you will regret it.

Other than cost, the reason I hesitate to keep both is whether the style will become dated sooner than, say, a shift dress.

Another question for you - is there a topper that would work with this?

For casual toppers, denim jacket for sure. A white or olive green linen cargo jacket would look nice too.

For a wedding - not sure!

I've got a couple of shift dresses (not this one but similar) and have been wearing successfully with a suit jacket over. Or aforementioned casual toppers.

I don't think it'll date but right now you can find this style in variations with different sleeves so if you want to only keep one, I'd keep the cobalt because you can probably find a variation in black more easily than cobalt. Also, that cobalt really lights you up and flatters! And would work great with simple black topper.

Yes to both. Elieen Fisher dresses don't date that quickly. I actually find the short sleeves ones to be the most versatile because I can always add a topper, or an underlayer, if I need to cover my arms. The short sleeve ones also lend themselves to dressing down more easily., in my opinion.

Keep the blue for sure, but I think that you will be sorry if you return either one. You may not need a topper with the sleeves, but if you want one, you might look for an assymetrical open cardi for the wedding. Black would work with the blue. I have a similar EF dress in dark blue and have used a medium length EF cardigan in the same midnight color but a knit texture that I was lucky enough to find thrifting.

Blue or both. The dress has a lovely effortless look on you. Is it hard to find dresses that fit well? Would you wear more if you could? Then keep both. The blue is a keeper because it ticks so many boxes and is a great chance to em wear a lovely color , and black is likely to turn up eventually.

And this is why: I bought the black one last summer, and completely fell in love with it. Can be dressed up or down, and is so freaking comfortable, one can (want to) wear it every day. Travels beautifully. Mine went to work, a conference, and yes, a wedding. I decided I wanted another one in a colour, that might be more summery. I got one in the spring, with my trip to Hawaii in mind. Wore it to dinner, and just hanging around in the evening with the family. But unfortunately it's not the best colour on me, so won't be worn as much as I'd like. I had in mind replacing it with a colour I LOVE, and now have this same blue one winging it's way to me. The other one will be on the style exchange when I have a chance to get pics. So yeah... I think they function a bit differently, and their comfort/look/travel ability makes them worth duplicating.

And re wearing with a topper, definitely. I posted this just a couple of weeks ago.

Ok, the blue for sure! I think I'll take Isabel's suggestion to keep the black with the tags on for the time being.

We're leaving in an hour for a 4 hour drive to the party destination tonight. The event is right after work and logistics don't permit a window or location for travel clothes and a change to the dress. Sooo, I'll find out right out of the chute how it travels.
