I really need a new wool coat. I have been on the hunt for a long while, to no avail. I have plenty of puffers. But pretty much my only wool coat - the cobalt Jcrew - still looks like new however I'm finding it hard to button these days. I could just wait it out until next fall when hopefully I've dropped some of this excess weight, but I just got a nice bonus and DH suggested I go ahead and treat myself.... and he put it into my head I should look at Burberry, since I like my trench coat so much....

So I went to Bloomie's and tried on Burberry's they had in stock. I really liked the Daylesmoore, but unfortunately they did not have it in my size, and an online search is turning up nothing either. I liked the Daylesmoore because it is almost identical in style to my trench, just in a wool fabric. The benefit to that style is that, as long as it fits in the shoulders, the double-breast buttons can be moved in or out to accommodate weight fluctuations. And even if I do drop weight this year, I'm realistic. If I'm going to spend this much money on a coat, I want to own it for a long long time, and as I move into my 50s, chances are good my weight will fluctuate and/or creep up and stay there.

If I can swing it this weekend, I may hit the Burberry store downtown and see what else they have. In the meantime, I've been online surfing.

What do you all think about these options for me? Has anyone seen these coats in person?

... far as I can tell, it is same as Daylesmoore except with cashmere blend?

I do love that this is in ink rather than black. I also love that it does not have a belt. (The belt totally worked on the Daylesmoore, but it's just another one of those fussy things to deal with). But what about the collar? It looks like it fits too close to the neck. My trench did that too, but the tailor steamed & ironed it to lay flatter & splay more open. Do you think this could be done with the Fairgate?

Here's another option - not sure what they mean by wool twill though?

Angie - would love your expert thoughts!

Requirements:
1. Classic style (I like trendy coats too -- I'd love a cocoon coat -- but if I'm going to invest at these prices, I want something that is going to work for a long time)

2. Single breasted Burberry's are OUT. I've tried those on and I need a bit more room but the buttons can't be moved to accommodate, not like with the double breasted versions. If I size up, then it's too loose in shoulders and also the proportions are too long all over. Basically, in Burberry, I'm an 8 width-wise but a 6 length- & shoulder wise.

3. Length: the shorter Burberry's work on me; the longer ones do not. However I do not want a pea coat length. I want the coat to reach past my rear and to the knee, or just above.

4. Doesn't need to be super-warm (I've got puffers for the coldest days), but it does need to be warmer than a typical fall/spring weight coat. I really love that my Jcrew coat has thinsulate, it is quite warm because of that feature, without being bulky. The Daylesmoore I tried on seemed to be fairly comparable.

5. Color. Ideally, not black. This is the biggest challenge! Outside of Burberry I absolutely need a petite. But I would go with black for the right coat.
