Closet cleanout #1: tops - YouLookFab Forum

I'm working on cleaning out my closet and could use some help.

1. Gray/pink floral printed top.
This is a thrift-store blouse that I love and had tailored, but I don't know what to do with it and I've never worn it out of the house. How should I wear it?

2. Blue long-sleeve T shirt.
I got this a few years ago at a funky shop in Berlin. The sleeves are an interesting semi-sheer printed material and it has ruching along the front band. Is it too weird? How should I wear it if I keep it?

3. Orange chenille turtleneck.
I bought this because it is very soft, but I haven't worn it in years because it's so bright. It looks much brighter in person, a true orange. And it's kind of shiny as well. It's just really bright. Please either convince me the color is good on me or tell me to get rid of it.

4. Chambray shirt.
Another thrift store find, which I liked because of the embroidered flowers. It's too big for me. Is it worth having tailored to wear in the current chambray shirt trend, or should it go?

5. Green shirt.
This shirt isn't denim but I thought I might be able to wear it like a denim shirt as part of the current trend. Or is it hideous?

No ideas on styling the others, but I would pass on the denim w/ embroidery shirt and the orange chenille sweater... I think the idea of the embroidered flowers is you, but the execution comes off a bit country cute and the orange sweater is a bit Thelma from Scooby Doo (if it's as bright as you say it is IRL).

I rather like the first and last blouses, but not coming up with good styling ideas, sorry!

I like #1 (does it work with any of your 'tough' accessories?). #2 is weird in a good way. I am ot sure how to style it though. Not fond of #3 and #4. #5 is nice for comfort casual wear.

I would pass on #3, 4 and 5. Both shirts are too baggy, esp. in the shoulders, and the chenille looks dated to me.
I like #2. Can you layer it over your Uniqlo turtleneck? Or try a vest over it.
I could also see #1 working with your biker jacket and skinnies. However, I can't tell what the material is like - I would keep if it's not too polyestery.

I really like #1, it's very pretty on you. I'd definitely keep it. Skinny jeans and boots? Or if you want to play with the colors, maybe something like a grey skirt and green heels?

#2 is pretty cool and buying it in a thrift store in Berlin is reason enough to keep it. But if you don't like it or feel right in it, don't keep it.

The color of #3 actually looks good on you in the photo, but I'll trust you that it's too bright.

I'd say no on #4. I like the detailing, but the fit doesn't seem right and I don't know if altering would be worthwhile.

#5 is a great color on you, but it looks a little big. Maybe it would be good for lounging or try a belt?

1 is gorgeous

2 would be cute with white denim- bunch up the bottom more so that you can see the rusching and pair it with bright accessories

the rest I would let go

I like the flower blouse and the Berlin top. The others are a toss for me. I too thought "Velma" when I saw the orange sweater and the others are very sub par for the rest of your fab wardrobe.

I vote keep #2 and pass on the rest. Even the floral blouse, unless you give it edge with your biker jacket and Docs.

No opinions to offer on the tops but wanted to applaud your closet cleanout. You're totally inspiring me to do the same in my closet; what a wonderful way to start the new year and the new decade!!

MPJ and Maya - you had me laughing with the Scooby Doo reference. You're spot on. Elpgal, Kristine, Marianne, Khris, Angie - thanks for the styling ideas. I appreciate it. Rute - I'm glad you're so ruthless but I might not be ready to get rid of everything!

I think I'm going to keep 1 and 2, the flowery blouse and the Berlin shirt. I like the suggestion of trying to wear the flowery blouse with some other tough-looking items. Maybe I'll try that as a mini-challenge.
