Chic or Clown?

Sometimes when I shop, I run across something that I just love . . . or so I think!! Sometimes the next year, I see that very item and wonder "what on earth was I thinking?"

So today I ran across this sweater and immediately fell in love, but it borders on a clown collar. Now I'm afraid I may not be seeing it rationally because it tapped into some primal attraction. . .

Please be honest, but gentle, as I have an irrational love for this sweater. . .

This styliing is the only one that my daughter finally relented and said it was okay:

I like the sweater with the cream purse, and I don't think clown when I see it. I think it looks good on you and goes well with your hair and my first impression of your style.
I say thumbs up. Enjoy it.

I think it's really cute- very fashionable right now... BUT, when those flowers are past their prime the sweater will look dated.

Yeah - the fabric flowers are probably a 2010 thing. . . But if it's a 'go', then I'll try to get my 2010's worth out of my $25

I sort of love it. Very posh in a lady-who-lunches kind of way. Love how you've styled it, too!

I also mildly disagree that it will date quickly; fabric flowers have been around for years, not just 2010, and I can't imagine a time when women won't wear flowers! The neutral colours and "specialness" of it will keep it unique and date-less, if that makes sense.

Ok, you totally have me wanting to go throw some fabric flowers on a cardi I was about to take to Oxfam. Hmm...

Both pics look good to me although I think I like the red purse one better. It definitely doesn't look clownish- you have the right sort of features to pull off a collar with bold details. Kudos on the good deal!

If I saw you walking confidently down the street I definitely wouldn't think "clown". I'd admire your style and confidence! It's a nice detail and draws attention to your face. The fact that it's white and you're wearing it with neutrals keeps it elegant.

I wouldn't even categorize that clownish at all. Luv the flowers. At first I thought red bag, but the red takes the attention away from the pretty detail of the sweater, so cream purse looks better.

I'm still trying to develop a discerning eye, so you are all a huge help!

I think I'll work on a 'black skinny pant and flats' look also, so I can wear it more than just out to dinner with DH.
