Capsule: Smart Casual Ink Blue And White

Its already been a while since Angie posted about the biz casual capsule in ink blue and white that she created for her client, but it never left my mind. I adore almost any shade and blue, and adding white and cream makes blue even more fab. Just think about blue and white china/porcelain.

Earlier this week I picked up a new top in black, blue and white, and it inspired me to create a capsule inspired by Angie's, but more smart casual than biz casual because that is more me. You might have seen a sneak peek in another thread.

There's nothing new here except for the top, so this is basically SYC. Some of these are from earlier this season, some are older, and some are thrift finds. My capsule consists of the following pieces:

Bottoms:
White slim jeans
Cream accordion pleated midi skirt

Tops:
"Ikat" patterned top in blue, black and white
Navy sleeveless top
Mid tone blue silk tee
Cream lace shell/top

Toppers:
Navy and black jacket in corduroy
White slightly oversized blazer

A navy dress

Shoes, belt & bags:
Mid tone blue pointy toe wedges
Metallic kitten heel pointy toe pumps
Stone suede booties
Cream satchel
Black laptop bag with blue piping
Navy belt

I would highly appreciate comments on the following:

Proportions? I've tried a variety of tucking/untucking, and the length of the toppers are also a concern.
The white blazer - does it really work?
What combinations do you like best, and why?

You took my breath away with this capsule. How do you do this? Each piece is fabulous on its own and thrown together they are just perfect. To my untrained eye, the proportions look perfect. May be more experienced fabbers can comment more objectively.
Are the skirt and blazer new additions to your spring wardrobe? Also, would you actually wear this capsule in spring and summer?

Mona, thank you:) The skirt is a new addition from Zarah, I bought it last month. The blazer is thrifted, I bought it a year ago, but I struggle a bit with it. I would definitely wear a lot of these outfits in spring/summer for work and for going out. For very warm temps (scarce here), I would probably not wear a topper, and maybe not jeans either. I have in fact worn a few of these combinations already.

This is a fabulous capsule. You have a wonderful talent for mix and match. I really like the white blazer with the navy dress or the white jeans. It looks a bit too long with the pleated skirt to my eye, but take that with a grain of salt :-).

OH MY GOODNESS!!! This capsule is brilliant Ingunn! Ink and white are gorgeous on you and the combinations you have come up with all work really well IMHO. My only comment is that I wonder if the white blazer is a bit too long for the pleated skirt? The proportions seem a wee bit off to me with that combination.

so lovely - all of them!! - but I'd have to say my favs are all the ones that use that print top - it is eye catching, modern and ladylike all rolled into one perfect top!! it especially sings with short blue jacket and the white jeans!!! - perfect compliment to your skin & hair!!

missvee, thank you for your honesty! I'm really puzzled by that blazer. To me, it looks like ones I've seen on Pinterest and such, but it is maybe a bit too boxy after all. I agree that it might be a bit too long for the skirt, but I'd LOVE to make it work. I'm curious about what others might have to add.

Yay! Double posting! Shannon, I trust your judgement completely, and you are the second one mentioning the length of the blazer. I think you have a point. I was hoping that the skirt would reign in enough for a slim silhouette, but I guess it didn't.

Okay, this is a new favorite capsule of yours now - I LOVE the color combo so much, and you've made so many beautiful and unique outfits. I could see where you could just wear this capsule for a whole season. I have a soft spot for the more casual of course so I do love #1 and #5 in particular (esp with the dark jacket) but they are all stunning on you.

This is such a brilliant and never-fail colour combo. To my eye it just screams spring/ summer, and I love it!

These are all terrific looks. My favourites are 3 in picture 1 (with the white blazer) -- because the slightly oversize fit there feels current and I like the proportion.

I love 2 in #2 for reasons of proportion, also - the shorter jacket seems better with the pleated skirt. All the looks in picture 3 works to my eye but my fave is #2.

I love 3 in picture 5 perhaps because of the gradient of colour or the unexpected pairing of the tee with the ladylike jacket. Fun.

Total love for 2 in picture 7.

Brilliant capsule and I hope you'll wear some of these!

I do agree with the others that the white blazer is a tad too long for the pleated skirt. Other than that, I love ALL of these - can't even pick a fav.

1st triad: Great proportions in 1, blazer may be too short in 2, and white blazer works imo in 3. Favorite combo: 1, because it's minimal and matchy matchy.

2nd triad: Great proportions in 1, pretty good in 2 (can you untuck a little with the top? I almost want to see it not quite as cropped), and white blazer too long for skirts imo in 3. Favorite combo: 1, because of its simplicity.

3rd triad: I'd like the top a touch longer in 1, you nailed the proportion in 2 (white blazer definitely works), and I think 3 works as well. Favorite combo: 1 & 2, because of cohesive colour scheme/minimalism/classy impact.

4th triad: I'd like the top a touch shorter in 1, you nailed the proportions in 2, and I don't personally like the white/cream mix in 3. Favorite combo: 2, because of the deep blues together.

5th triad: The proportions in all three work. Favorite combo: 1, because it's minimal and matchy matchy.

6th triad: I'd like the top a touch shorter in 1, and the proportions work in 2-3. Favorite combo: 3, because of how you pulled off the juxtaposition of so many elements.

7th triad: You nailed the proportions in 1-2, and I don't personally like the white/cream mix in 3. Favorite combo: 2, because the blazer + lace top + all white is so pretty.

8th triad: What about adding your blue belt in 1, and you nailed the proportions in 2-3. Favorite combos: 2 & 3, because of the matching + high contrast in 2 and the cream/white texture mix in 3.

9th triad: What about adding your blue belt in 1, the sheath seems a bit short for the blazer in 2, and the white blazer seems too long in 3. Favorite combo: 2, because of the colour mix.

WELL I didn't realize that your other post was the bonus and this is the capsule! Loads of options with this one, incredible.

#1 - all good!

#2 - I like the booties with 2b and 2c, with 2a it looks a bit heavy with the sleeveless top. Perhaps if it's untucked so the whole thing has a more breezy boho vibe?

#3 - all good!

#4 - all good. I really like the diagonal in #4c, especially with the long blazer. Really fun lines in that outfit.

#5 - all good. Really like how that blue top looks untucked with the short ink jacket.

#6 - b and c look great. a, I am not too sure about the untucked shirt. I think it's just a touch too long. I'd try tucking the front in and leaving the back out so you've got the structure in front.

#7 - all FAB and the first two make my heart flutter!

#8 - first two look great (esp. that first one!!) but I think the blazer in 8c is just too long.

#9 - all good!

Good morning,

Here's what I've taken away from your responses on this capsule

The color scheme is right for me, so I should wear it more often
The patterned top is great for tying together blue and white in an outfit
The white blazer is too long for the skirt
The white blazer works well with the white jeans
An all-white outfit is ALWAYS great - but we already knew that, didn't we
