Can I wear this dress? - YouLookFab Forum

I haven't posted in ages, but I knew this was the right place to ask. I want to order a new dress and am eyeing this one. I am busty (34G, maybe even 32G), with an hourglass figure, flat butt, and heavy thighs, and a bit of lower tummy (4 babies). My natural waist is 30-31 inches.

I am considering going with the custom altering and doing a deep v-neck, 3/4 or elbow length sleeves, and length below the knee.

Do you think the gathering at the waist and my bust size will make the dress not work for me? I often feel like my waist is too short with my bust size and lower tummy. I do have a better bra than pictured--something that gets the girls a little higher. I think I was wearing my sports bra here.

Also, if this dress is not a good style for me, what would you recommend?

I would think you have the perfect figure for a fit and flare. The color of the dress would be gorgeous with your coloring, It also looks like it would look awesome with a belt to accentuate your small waist. It's hard to gauge how the fabric would drape without feeling it but I think the style and concept would look awesome on you!!

In addition to fit & flare dresses, you could rock wrap dresses. Actually, the v-neck and longer sleeves sound more to me like you are describing a wrap dress.

Angie, I have almost exactly the same body as you. The fit and flare dress (I call this the 50s dress) is the right shape and will look good as long as the material below is not shiny. Also do you generally look good in lace, because it can be ageing for some?

As for the neckline, how much cleavage are you comfortable with? I don't like cleavage so I always wear camisoles with deep Vs or wrap dresses. Personally my favorite neckline is a wide scoop neck (think a wide U) ending just above the cleavage. Draped necklines are also flattering.

You can also rock a sheath (tailored look) and shift dress (straight column), just make sure they are not tight around the lower belly. PM me if you wanna chat about other styles that suit our shape

Thanks for the input, ladies! This may be a stupid question, but would you consider this dress a fit & flare?

Peacechick, good question about the lace! Honestly, I'm not sure how I'd look in lace because I don't have any. I just want something lacy. Though, not sure if it's practical with 4 young kids. As for cleavage, I don't like to show ANY, and always wear a cami as well.

I think you have to try it to see: gathering or pleats on the waist can be a problem if folds are not soft.
I would also try true fit and flare dress where there are no gathering or folds like this one. this style would be much easier to wear.

4babiesMe, can you return the dress if you don't like it? I guess not if it was customized for you? I like the 2nd dress you put up. It may be more versatile than the lace dress, which I see as a party dress (but maybe that's what you need).

I was asking about deep Vs because while I have such dresses, I don't really like to wear camisoles underneath my clothes and they tend to roll up. They are good for breastfeeding though...

We seem to have similar body shapes and as long as the waist on the dress aligns with the waist on you, I think it would be lovely for you. Being short waisted makes it a bit more challenging for items with a seamed waist.

Thanks again, ladies! I opted for the 2nd dress I posted (the black & white). I think you are right about the lace one being more of a party dress. I think, when I'm finally ready for lace, I will opt for a lace tunic. Something I can dress down with some leggings and a scarf. I should get it in a couple weeks. I'm excited about having something tailor made for me. FX'd it fits well!

It's a
good idea to try custom made if you want to look perfect in the dress. Since
you'd prefer a V-neck dress with sleeves, I guess this one
will make a good choice. It’s so stunning!
