Can a sweater be altered???

I have a leopard cardigan that I never wear. I just realized that I don't wear it because I don't like the buttons - an easy fix!

I'd also love to have it nipped in a bit at the waist, but I'm not sure if a tailor can do that.

Any thoughts??

Hi, there. Perhaps try belting the cardigan for a nipped effect. Try a skinny belt in a contrasting color!

Belting it also was the first thing that occurred to me too. My son has his tee shirts taken in so they are a bit more fitted on his skinny frame. They may be able to take in the side seams of your sweater the same way. I'd ask a tailor about it.

I've had sweaters altered. It depends on how you want it altered and the seaming. I would call around and find someone who is comfortable working on them. I would definitely go the belting option first though.

Does the sweater have side seams? Most RTW sweaters do as they are (at least partially) cut and sewn rather than knitted entirely in the round. If so, altering the side seams shouldn't be that hard.
