Burberry quilted red jacket...made me smile! Too matchy matchy?

I went to try on some NAS stuff and was looking at the cobalt quilted Burberry jacket on sale ($459), but what they had in stock (M) was too big on me and it looked super casual with all those pockets on the front. They had a red S one that was not on sale ($495), but I couldn't resist trying it on. It put a smile on my face. But with the quilted Chanel red purse, it may be too matchy matchy even for me! What do you think--should I go back to get it?

Too matchy matchy for my taste. To me they fight for attention. I'd like to see the jacket with jeans and your studded black bag.

Or maybe a black quilted jacket instead? Is that still too matchy with the quilted red purse?

The black would be better with the red bag but I love the colour of the red jacket against your complexion. Maybe you could just wear it on Miss Scarlet's day off?

well, I love it. You should see the vintage photos of campus coeds from the 50's who have fabric flats matching their plaid skirts. Seriously, I do love the two together. Looks like one garment in two pieces, if you see what I mean. I do two different things with handbags. Sometimes I want a bag hanging lower and echoing the top, jacket and sometimes I want a shorter shoulder bag that is much the same color as the top piece. The Horror of Matching is a relatively modern trend and like all trends will be passing away any time now. Just saw photos of a high powered woman executive who favors brightly colored twin sets.

I'd steer away from too much quilted items in one outfit.

It's a lovely jacket, but I wonder if it's too boxy.

I like matchy, but I think it's too much red. Even with the jacket in another color, I fear it may be too many quilted items.

What Betti said. And the bag needs to pop - it shouldn't be camouflaged on a quilted background, I think. Plus for some reason I feel this jacket looks to rugged for the Demure Bombshell.

I too am not fond ot the shape of the jacket. It is too matchy matchy as well. That purse deserves to be the STAR!!!!

i think it's too much quilting... like Angie says, in small doses otherwise too 'utility' looking. I agree the purse should be the STAR and not compete. But sure fun for play dr.ess up. I'm also don't think the shape of the jacket fits your lady-bombshell style.

Sorry I'm another nay vote on the jacket. I might like it better in black, with a different cut. Perhaps with a difference cut, maybe a lower stance.

The quilted-quilted really takes the matchy over the top! I think you look prettier in fabrics that are soft enough to show your lovely shape.

Is that the Chanel lipstick? It looks great!

Yep, another nay on that jacket. I have an ultra poison eye for that particular Burberry. It reminds me of Bunny from SATC and the pretentious NYC Upper East Side ladies ( some - not all of them of course). That Burberry is standard issue there. You are too fab for it!

Well, you DO look fabulous in red, that's for sure!
But I think the shape of this jacket isn't as pretty on you as some of the coats you already have. I bet the belted one that you were looking for will look way better on you- your initial instincts were good!

I am not terribly fond of the jacket, either. It isn't even the matchy-matchy that bothers me, just that the jacket isn't fab enough on you. But the bag is simply TDF - GORGEOUS! And the skirt you are wearing in the pictures is fab, too.

Thanks all! Yes, it was fun to try on, but it appears that yes, there is a limit to even my match-matchiness! Which is why it didn't come home with me. Also agree with you that the jacket seemed strangely boxy and puffy on me. I tried the blue one with the cinched waist, but they only had a M. I was concerned that it looked too casual on me with all the pockets on the front. I guess maybe I'm not meant to wear a quilted jacket.

Another side note, I tried two DVF wrap dresses, and struck out again. I guess my body is not made for DVF wrap dresses! (At least I have the Banana Republic one, and Maggy London one, and several faux wrap dresses).

Don't feel bad on the DVF dress. It looked soo bad on me, I probably would have all of you beat. It was also so short. Sigh.

I actually kinda get a kick out of the matchy matchy... but they don't match in style. The jacket is very country.

I'm with Rachy and Vildy--- I really like this matchy-matchy pairing and would actually even wear it myself! (and you know I'm not that matchy myself) This reads whimsical to me.

But yeah, pity it's not quite the right shape, that jacket.
