I've been meaning to get a bra fitting for a while, and finally went to Alice Rae today. Alice Rae used to be listed on the Intimacy website as a place to go in AZ, since they don't have any Intimacy stores here. Plus Alice Rae had good online reviews, so it seemed worthy of a try.
A bit of background: my aunt was a lingerie specialist at Nordstrom for a couple decades (she switched jobs a couple years ago), and she has sized me as a 32D since I was 14. I started buying bras at Victoria's Secret when I got to college, but was never as happy with how they fit, and so now I've been wanting to go get fitted again and see what's up. Also, after reading Maya's posts, I have a sneaking suspicion I'm more of a 30 or even a 28... but I digress.
So, I get to Alice Rae and the woman takes me to a fitting room, measures me under the boobs (with my shirt and bra still on) and tells me I'm a 32, and she thinks I'm probably a B or C cup. She comes back with two strapless bras in 32A and 32B, and tells me they don't have the 32 in a larger cup size. I humor her and try on the 32B, which looks awful. She tells me it looks great. I tell her I want to try a larger cup size. She comes back with a 34B. I try it on, and insist that it still digs into my breasts on top, and that I want to try a larger cup size. She tells me I won't be able to fill a C cup and that the 34B looks great, but I say I want to try the 34C anyway. I try it on, and it fits better than any of the others, but is still a bad fit. She tells me it looks great, I tell her it's not good enough, but thanks for trying, and I leave.
It looks like Nordstrom might be my best bet in town, unless anyone can suggest a better department store... I tried Macy's and the woman told me that they don't carry much smaller than a 34 so I shouldn't bother looking! Ugh. I could also try ordering a bunch of stuff online and just sending back what doesn't fit, but that seems a bit extreme, especially since I want to experiment with a smaller band size. Any suggestions?
