Bought some Hot Weather Pieces

We usually have really hot summers (85-95 for July and most of August). I usually wear t-shirts and tanks a lot but decided to get a few light shirts for both the Vegas trip and the rest of summer (if it gets here).

#1 is a skirt and top that shouldn't work but I think it does. I am a pattern mixing phobe but on impulse tried this combo. I think it works even though the aqua isn't in the skirt. The grey in the skirt seems to take on a greenish cast with the top. What do you think?

#2 is a simple khaki/beige skirt with a bit of stretch. The top is linen cotton blend and can be worn tucked or untucked. I think it will work with a lot of bottoms.

#3 is a coral top I picked up. It works well with the beige skirt but also with these shorts. I have the same shorts in khaki and this should work too.

#4 is the last shirt. It has a lot of colors so will go with many bottoms. I wore this with my brown faux leather jacket to meet a friend for lunch.

I know the skirts are rather short for a woman my age but it is supposed to be close to 100F in Las Vegas so I thought it would be okay.

I think 2, 3, and 4 all look fantastic! I like the skirt and shirt in 1, but I'm not quite seeing them together. I think the fuller skirt would look better with a slimmer-fitting shirt, like a knit tee. The shirt is a great color and would look beautiful with those white jeans!

By the way, I think the lengths look great on you! No matter your age, your legs look fab. I am in envy!

For me 2, 3 and 4 are just perfect - you are looking simple beautiful. 1 is pretty too (and this skirt lenght is for you perfect) but I think that the skirt is a bit to hight. If you lower it a bit (is it possible?) it could look even better.

You look great. I am planning to wear a few short skirts this summer in spite of my age. So I am right along with you.

For #1, I agree the patterns/colors work well but due to the volume of the skirt + bare legs, I think the sleeves need to be rolled up. Or try this skirt with a more form fitting top to balance the bottom. Have you tried the top from #3 with this skirt?

#2 and 4 work beautifully together.

I don't think any of the skirts are too short - hot weather is a bear. The shorts are kinda short, but I wear short shorts too so I'm right there with ya! I have to agree that something doesn't quite go right with #1 but the rest look great.

Hmm... maybe a more fited top o v e r the skirt? Something like on the pic below... Not sure, if it would work, just brainstorming, but i think, the way you have styled it makes you a bit shortwaisted.

LOL Marmaga, I am a bit short-waisted. I was thinking I would wear a plain ribbed tank with the skirt as well as the top. I never thought of trying the coral top with it though. I will give it a try. I was also thinking about putting the coral top with the darker coral jeans. I may try that another day.

Is the bow tie belt on the skirt removeable? I think if you wanted to wear the top and skirt together i would remove it and try replacing with a regular belt instead. I would bring the bow belt back for like a plain ribbed tank like you mentioned above. Just my two cents!

Otherwise i think these are some really great hot weather outfits!

The tie belt is removable Nicole. I cleared out the closet and got rid of a few belts too so I am not sure I have one that would work but will try it out. I will also try a shirt untucked to see if it works. I'm a bit concerned that with the volume on the bottom, and a shirt that isn't tucked, I may look heavy.

Barbara, thank you. The legs are showing their age as is the rest of me but I think the shorter shorts are lengthening and even though I try the longer ones, they just don't look flattering.

I love all of your new tops! Here's my two cents about the skirt in 1: I think I'd like to see it a few inches longer, or maybe tugged down a bit so it's not so high on your torso. Somehow the proportions aren't as spot-on as they could be, IMHO.

Great outfits! You are ahead of the game with warm weather outfits. I'm not sure about the proportions of outfit #1, but the rest are all fab! You have great legs and can carry off the shorter lengths. Love the shorts and coral top! I'm also impressed with how well you look with tucked -in looks. I'm taking notes.

I agree with all of the other suggestions about #1, so I'll just add that I really like 2, 3, and 4. That coral shirt is lovely on you, and #3 is just perfect all around - love the belt.

I think what's bothering me about #1 is that all the skin is leg. I'd like to see more arm to balance it out more, so a sleeveless shirt or sleeves rolled to the elbows as in #2 with the skirt more that length if it can be let out. Skirt #1 is starting to show thigh and that seems too short for you.
About finding longer flattering shorts, be sure to try some that fit closely to the leg. That can make a big difference.
You look tall with a lovely figure that can look good in anything.

Thanks Joy but I have enough fluff on the upper thighs that more fitted longer shorts usually result in far less that crotch-tastic results. I have proportionately long legs for my height (just under 5'5") and longer fitted shorts stumpify me. I wish it weren't so but it is.

The proportions of the first two are what bothers me. You have equal parts skirt and top, which looks a bit boxy. If both skirts were a little bit longer, it would be more balanced. The shorts and pants work much better.
