Are these boots slouchy at the ankles?

I finally got the chance to go out to the mall and try on a few pair of boots. But I am consistently finding that even the boots most popular here on the forum are all slouchy at the ankle. I thought I might not be "seeing" it right but after looking at a few pictures of you ladies in boots, DH agrees that none of the boots I tried looked good on me. Yesterday I found the Rideline boots by Aerosoles at a fab price at the mall but they just didn't look right one me:

I wish I had taken pictures of the other boots I tried (Easy Spirit, Bandolino, Steve Madden etc) but I was getting progressively disheartened.

Am I right that the boots are slouchy at the ankles? The fit is perfect at the calves and around the feet. I measured my calves a million times and they are around 14". Or is it my calves that are too wide? I wonder if slouchy knee length boots are the way to go for me. I do remember reading once that April had actually gotten her boots taken in at the ankles. But I really don't think I have such super slim ankles either. What am I missing?

Thanks much!

Hi Niva! :D They are a bit slouchy at the ankles. It's hard to tell whether they work or not without seeing a full body shot. It seems like a fine line between "purposefully" slouchy and "accidentally" slouchy (these boots seem like they fall into the latter category). I think it's just one of those things that you'll know it when you see it. If you're not happy though, you should definitely keep looking. Boots are a big investment, you should really be happy with them. I still haven't found my perfect pair of boots. I'm hoping I will this season. :)

I think it's hard to tell from that angle, Niva. They don't look overly slouchy but I know what you mean if you are talking about the wrinkles around the ankle. I tried the RL last year and had massive wrinkles around the ankle--the contrast between that and the tautness around the calf looked wonky. I think the fact that it bothers you and DH is reason enough to keep searching. You might try the the Ecco Esmerelda's--they were much more sleek (no bunching around the ankles.) HTH.

I'm with Ana and Kelly!

Vani, may we see a full length picture? If I were to guess, these are not slouch boots - just boots that slouch at the ankle because the shaft is too long. But I could be wrong! Hang in there - you'll find boots.

Ana! Why can't you find boots?

Probably because I haven't looked hard enough. :D I've only tried just a few pairs on at stores on a whim, and there's always been something kind of off about them, some detailing I didn't quite like, or they weren't very comfortable, etc. I will probably start looking harder around December. I may order some tall Doc Martens and see if they work. My legs are short, but I think I have longer shins than thighs, heh. We'll have to see. I kind of like the white ones, but I'm trying to figure out how I would wear them exactly. The black are nice too. I'd need another pair of some kind though, since I don't think Docs would go with everything I have.

Ana, you are right, it is a bit hard to tell from those pictures. Since the boots are fitted at the calf they do look like they are accidentally slouchy. I really do need to make an effort to go out and try a lot more styles I guess. I remember now why I gave up on knee length boots years ago. I had the same issue though then I couldn't really put my finger on what looked "off". I hope to see the tall docs on you. I LOVE the look but I'm afraid they might be a bit too tall for me. Sigh.

Kelly, wrinkles is the word I'm looking for! I do really want to try on the Eccos but can't seem to find them at any of the stores around here. I haven't made the trek to Nordstrom yet. Hopefully, I will find something there.

Angie, hopefully, I will make a day of boot trials this weekend. I will definitely get full body shots then. Unfortunately, these are all the pictures I have from last weekend, they were sort of an after thought. Hmm, if the shaft is too long on these (14", and they did feel kind of long when I tried them on) then I'm assuming it will be the same with your average boot. I might have to start looking for something shorter. Thank you!

Vani, if I recall correctly, Sarah has these same boots and I don't think they were slouchy at the ankles on her. Maybe she still has some pics on her blog from last winter with these boots? Since they are riding boots, they are not supposed to be slouchy at all.

I empathize with you - I have literally been looking for well-fitting boots for YEARS. I already had three pairs before I bought the Eccos but none are snug at the calf and two of them are a little tall on me. I kind of wish I had held out instead of just loading up on no-so-right ones. Last winter, I must have tried on every boot I saw - my husband was sick of my obsession with boots so he is relieved that I have finally found one. Little does he know that now I need to find some brown ones!

Shana, she does and it was after comparing to those pictures that I was sure these were unduly slouchy at the ankles for me. I was hoping to find a pair of boots for this year but I don't know about that now. I'm doing alright on the slouchy boots front so those might be my consolation prize for now :-)
