Cognac bootie musing... These with a skirt? Or not...

I was just browsing the old interweb, when for some reason, these caught my eye. They're new stock. The colour is nice. Not even sure whether they would be right for my style. And I just wondered if they would even work with a skirt as well as jeans. I'm still jet lagged (maybe not the best time for decisions) and just browsing, but humour me here. Thoughts? Tell me if they're a load of **&!.

So cute! I would try these with a skirt. You can tie them so there is no ankle gap which is my biggest problem with booties and skirts.

These would definitely work with a skirt - I would just avoid the broom skirt (or whatever those long crinkly skirts were called).

Ha AG! No broom skirts for me. I was thinking narrow pencil type skirts or perhaps culottes.

I don't know. Maybe they're not even right for me?...

I truly love your sense of style...The pictures that you posted post Seattle week-end of the outfits you wore were just FAB...Perhaps if you have time, you could shop a bit more for boots...I will bet you could find some you like more...smile...

They would certainly work with skirts. I wonder if you're hesitating because the laces are quite a bit of detail. To me, they are similar in feel to the high ankle strap shoes you were wearing on Saturday in Seattle: feminine, could skew a little boho, but still classic enough that they are not over the top and not scene-stealers.

Actually FC I had lace up boots in the 80's and loved them! I don't mind the laces at all.

I agree--the first thing I thought was how well they would bookend your hair. You definitely need cognac booties. I like the ones you pictured a lot, but I'm not entirely sure that they would work with pencil skirts. To my eye (and I'm slightly girly, so keep that in mind) they seem a little detailed and slightly androgynous for a pencil skirt, unless you were planning to go a little rougher/less feminine with the top? I've worn something more like these with pencil skirts and felt fab. I'd absolutely wear something like what you pictured with jeans, though.

In Seattle I saw a great outfit where the slouchy pant leg was cuffed and the cuffed bit stuck into the unlaced shaft with the laces fine starting at the ankle bone or slightly below. It reminded me of a less aggressive way to wear docs...

I digress, especially if that isn't your look. These are a great color for your hair. I personally would not wear them with skirts because I think it's a young look for me. Perhaps it depends on the skirt.

They seem a little more masculine than things I'm used to seeing you wear but maybe there is a slight style shift? I love the idea of cognac for you though and if you feel like you like them, then by all means, I see the style worn in cute ways with skirts quite a lot.

Funny, I think are quite feminine and I mostly picture them with skirts because what's the point of hiding the lace and detail under pant legs? To me, they skew a bit retro or whimsical, along the lines of E's style. Not sure of pencil skirts but a swingy plaid or tweed would be really fun.

I think they could work for sure. The only hesitation I have is from a practical standpoint. I have a pair of lace up boots & I love them BUT the laces take so long to tie & untie that, unless I'm going out for the day, I tend to wear my zipped ones much more. If that isn't a problem then please ignore

I have a soft spot for lace up booties so I really like them. But, I still struggle with booties with skirts. I do like what Sara said about being able to make them more fitted to the ankle because it's the flower pot look for which I have a poison eye.

I like what K posted. To my eye, I prefer to see a shootie type shoe with pencil skirts or tube skirts. The lace up style would be great with more casual looks.

Stylistically, these have a bit of both an oxford and a Victorian vibe. I think the color would be really good for you (would be lovely with your hair). Stylistically both seem like they'd work for you, adding both a touch of romance and a touch of pretty-masculinity. Is that something you like getting out of your footwear? I ask because, for example, while I quite enjoy touches of masculinity, I generally do not enjoy getting it from shoes. Therefore I know that I need to avoid overly masculine shoes. Just another way of thinking about it.

Absolutely worth a try! I wear booties with skirts all the time if the ankle is fitted and with laces it should be easy to make it fitted.

I can absolutely see these on you, and with skirts, although maybe not pencil skirts as Una mentioned. And they do give a certain vibe, so you have to think about whether you like it.

It's good to read everyone's take on the style of these boots BTW they do have zip too! Take a look at the link I gave and it shows different views.

Here's my take on the style... To me they do look a little feminine and I see a bit of brogue and Victorian influence. I also think they remind me a bit of Shannon's Doc Marcies and also they bring to mind this look of Natalies (picture #4) http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....mpunk-week As you can see, Natalie is wearing a tube skirt with hers.

So there is quite a bit that I like about them, however whether I will struggle to get enough looks out of them is another thing. I may just order them for fun and see what I think...

You know, looking at them again I realize that they are not really overtly masculine so much but for some reason I seem to see most oxford styling with the details like this to be more of a menswear inspired look. I think it's due to my own style limitations of never really wearing oxfords or even laceups aside from sneakers. I still sort of wish I had had a reason to keep the taupe Hinge oxfords I tried a while back. I thought they were so feminine on the foot (though DH didn't see it that way). Reading others descriptions seems so spot on - a little Victorian for sure. Like E's style definitely.

Oh, do you think so Angie? Good to know I had a look at a few other websites and looked at boot trends and lace up styles are coming through a lot, especially brogue detailing. These ones shape to the foot contours nicely and the heel isn't a big square block, so I do see elements of refinement to them that I prefer. I think I'll order and see how they shape up. Nothing to be lost eh?

Can't find a photo (sorry), but I am practically living in a very similar pair of cognac/taupe/chocolate Clark's. I find they go with every shape and length of trouser; please let me know what you discover about wearing them with skirts.

Diane, I'm late here, but I really like them. I find lace up boots can be quite versatile. Even though I don't currently own a pair, LOL. These ones would bookend your hair beautifully. I see them as you do -- a bit Victorian, a bit funky, and I instantly imagined them with skirts because they prevent the ankle gap. I used to wear my Doc Marcies with skirts.

I've ordered the boots and they'll probably arrive next Monday or Tuesday. Lets hope they work out. I'm really asking them to work hard wanting something to go with trousers/jeans and skirts!

I'd really love to see these with the skirt. I think if you have a good skirt match for them (or two), you're already sorted, just changing tops and toppers will give you enough versatility.
