Oh, wow, love the jacket and yes, it definitely works with colors. I hear you on how sometimes black and white demands...black, or white! But this does not, and that makes it very versatile.
I like the mid-range color of the teal especially, as it seems to light up the range of tones in the jacket, but probably cobalt is more "in", and it still works.
I would do just what you are doing and play with different colors, maybe different lighting, and find your faves--also depending on what else is in your wardrobe.
