Black skirt for summer? (Update @ bottom)

I love the longer BR skirt Angie has shown us but it is much too long for petite me. I'm wondering if anyone has seen the one I'm showing below? I'd like a lighter weight black skirt for summer and this could fit the bill. Given the measurements in length, I'd go for the regular as the petite would be too short for work. Reviews aren't great but still...thoughts?

Or there's the VC ruched tube skirt from Amazon (2nd pic)?

ETA: I've added this mesh overlay black skirt in the 3rd pic as another option. It is a simple pull on style with elastic waist similar to the VC tube skirt but with this asymmetrical mesh overlay. Thoughts?

I've ordered the BR skirt but thanks to Elizabeth's detailed review, my strong hunch is it will be returned due to thin fabrication.

I really like the shape of the BR skirt. If the length works for you, I'd at least try it. The ruched skirt is nice too, but I like the unusual draping of the BR skirt.

Try BR first since you can get it easily, and then maybe the VC if it does not work? Or maybe the VC will show up later in the season at The Bay. If so, snap it up pronto. I am still wearing my VC tube skirts 4 seasons on! One is getting a bit pilled but I can't believe how well they have lasted.

In the "no time to waste" department, I have gone ahead and ordered the BR skirt. No idea what my size is in BR regular anymore so went with my gut instinct. At 17" in length, the petite would be bordering on indecent for work so went with regular.

Suz - I couldn't agree more about the VC tube skirts. I'm also wearing all three of mine several years in. Those things are amazing!

I have an older EF black tube skirt that is a workhorse all year. I love it in the summer with sleeveless silky tees and summer footwear. I'm a big fan of black in summer. Showing more skin keeps it from looking too heavy

If this BR skirt is the same fabrication as the midi one it would be too casual for work in my world. Somehow it felt more casual to me that VC tube striped skirt - maybe because the fabric is not as substantial?

I tried on a VC ruched skirt. It didn't work on my softer post baby body, but the construction and fabric were amazing!

First of all, I love the creative spelling of "ruched" that The Bay used. Lol. I am frustrated with these BR skirts and dresses! Every time one is posted or featured here, I go into the store to check it out and just can't with them.. They are so thin and chintzy looking (and I don't mean chintz pattern haha) that I cannot figure out who can wear them other than the extremely thin with a straight body . I don't know, they just never look good to me. They show every single line, lump and bump , even when there aren't many to show! The VC ones are always good , but you know that. Have you ever tried on the VC ruched version? I'm petrified of it because it looks so tiny on the hanger, but it is indeed pretty . I have 2 of the tube skirts and have not worn either yet this spring - yikes!

After all of that yelling i just did - I bought an EF jerseyish skirt (knee length) in black instead (from ChaCha) . Yes, I could have bought a new car instead, but it is so much better in terms of quality etc - as we all know. I have to take it in a bit, so it's sitting in my sewing pile, but it will be the skirt of the summer I think. Note to self: get it done!!!

I checked out this skirt last night, plus the longer one that Angie showed in her recent ensemble.

This one IS thin, and as such you may find it a bit flimsy feeling. But it's not bad... I think I could handle it, but I know a friend of mine would find it too drapey. Now, I found it small. I am an 8 in BR pants almost always, but the M (8-10) was tight through the butt/hips. And the thin fabric couldn't handle that, if you know what I mean :). But sized up... it wasn't bad. On me, this meant it was then a bit big around the waist, but I think that's ok for a skirt like this. I know you've already ordered this, but for anyone else, you may want to consider sizing up, or trying two sizes. I'd be interested to know what you think of it, so please post when it arrives!

The long one is sheer genius. It has an inner skirt, so no worrying about what the slit does when you sit. It was actually almost too long on me... touched the ground, but I was doing a bunch of errands and didn't feel like taking the time to try on a Petite.

Elizabeth - thanks so much for the feedback. Obviously it's as Lisa indicated - very thin. Once it arrives I will post a "real life" review. As for the longer one, do you think it is something that could be hemmed from the bottom without losing the shape?

I'm not sure Shannon, I didn't look at it with that in mind. But I suspect not easily... the fabric kind of curves around and up, so you'd have to blend the hemmed seam back in to the part of it which you don't want to touch. Which would take care and talent. Make sense?

I love that third skirt if it can be worn for work. You may see the EF version on eBay. It is pull on like a tube skirt and thick enough not to show evert bulge. The regular hits just at my knees. I got it in my usual EF size (XS).

I really like the INC one. That's one of those totally odd labels that can have some really great things, and some real head-scratchers too. I love this mesh overlay idea.....

I think INC one is worth a try! I am almost tempted myself but I am sure it will be a mini on me

Update: I received the BR skirt and although I absolutely love the style and fit, the fabric is a little on the thin side. This doesn't bother me if I'm wearing a tunic length top as there is additional coverage then but I certainly wouldn't be comfortable with any sort of shorter top. I guess I need to decide if that's a deal breaker for me. Might pop by The Bay tomorrow and see if they have the INC skirt to try for comparison. Maybe post some pics tomorrow too.
