More interesting and varied responses!
Angie, okay I *finally* listened to you: the Melissas are on order, in bordeaux. We shall see if these are the winners. Knowing your knack for picking just the right style for people, they probably are.
Laura, I knew you would understand the cowboy boot love! I do believe that cowboy boots are love-em or hate-em style, which definitely plays out on this thread and on my blog. Very few mild reactions, for sure! I love that western look for a casual boot, myself, but clearly that's a minority opinion.
Jean and Maya, I'm not super-crazy about the slouch look, but I don't think the style is a one-season or an extreme trend like toe-less boots or harem pants. There are trends that I resisted for a long time because I thought they wouldn't last, but they have proven to have remarkable staying power: patent leather, skinnies, moto jackets, etc. What I actually like about the slouch look with the Fryes is that they are well-made enough that they still keep their shape if you want them to, and they're not sewn so the crinkles are permanent, like many of the cheaper slouch boots are. So I think I would be able to do more with them if the trend passes. That said, I didn't realize until I followed Laura's link that the Melissas were a slouch style, and I am skeptical if that's the style I am looking for. But I'm not rejecting them out of hand for it.
