Best inseam length for my PPL

I have a couple of pairs of pants that need hemming. Being the odd height that I am (5’2” with longish legs), I am usually too tall for petite pants, and too short for regulars. And being hard to fit for pants in general, I buy anything that actually fits me and then worry about hemming once I have the right fit.

Measuring myself (which may not be the most accurate way to go) my inseam is 29” with no shoes or very flat ballet flats. The inseam goes up to 31” with 3” heels. That doesn’t seem right, since you’d think 3” heels would add 3” of height, but that’s beside the point.

What I am wondering is what inseam length I should look for in stores that have a variety of inseams. Is 30”, 31”, or 32” easier to find? Or does it depend on the store and brand? I suppose I should just buy what fits and have it hemmed, like I’ve done in the past. My real questions are these: Should I pick one heel height for all of my heels that I wear with pants? Should I base the choice of my inseam length on the heel height I am most comfortable wearing? The problem is that I wear both 2 and 3 inch heels, and I can’t wear the same pairs of pants with both heel heights. Having one pair of heels to go with a pair of pants sounds rather boring to me, but if it’s the price I have to pay for PPL, I suppose I could do it.

As always, any suggestions are appreciated. I’m still fairly new to all of this and love learning from you more experienced ladies.

Thanks so much.

You're probably fine with a 29 inch seam for flats, right? That’s a petite length.

Unfortunately there is no way around it, unless you wear skinny pants. You’ll need to hem regular length pants and commit to a heel height. Half an inch or so leeway on a heel usually works for the same pant length. Hope that gets you on your way.

Yes Angie, 29" works fine for my ballet flats. Those have been my go-to shoes for months now.

Well, I guess I'll just have to decide on a heel height for my other pants. Actually, I don't have too many pairs now, so this is more for future notice. Right now I have a pair of gray slacks that I bough in January still waiting to be hemmed. Those I will hem for my black 3" heels (and perhaps wear my red 3 1/4" to mix it up sometimes). The other pair I need to hem are medium blue jeans I bought in May for flats. They are just a tad too long and more drag the ground than skim it.

Hm, I'm thinking more and more about getting a pair of dark skinnes. They would solve this problem. I tried on a pair last month that fit perfectly, but my clothing budget for the month was already gone, and they were miles too long. Perhaps I should look for them in a petite inseam. Now that it's August, I'm definitely heading back for them.

What is the PPL for skinnes? If they are supposed to bunch at the ankle, how long are they not bunched?

Thanks. That's helpful. I can't wait to get some skinnies!
