Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

Ballet flats & bare feet?

My Hushpuppy ballet flats ("Burlesque") arrived today and they're gorgeous...my question is on sizing. Do people generally wear ballet flats and bare feet - even in the fall? I feel like low vamp shoes look odd with socks, but maybe I just have to adjust my eye.

I plan on wearing these shoes with my version of Angie's MOTG #1 outfit, seen here: http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=13100139.

The shoes arrived with a mark on one of the toes, so I'll have to exchange it I'm just wondering if I'll need to size up for trouser socks?

I beleive that the general consensus here is that ballet flats are always to be worn barefoot.

Oh, good. I'll just swap for the same size then...Thank goodness for free shipping! They are even more adorable in person than online. :) Thanks for the fast reply, Tanya!

I don't know where you live, but at this point in the year, I don't even wear ballet flats anymore. Too cold.

Sometimes I do wear my ballets with trouser socks, but I do so knowing full and well that it is not the greatest look in the world, and certainly not YLF approved. But after a certain point, all of my shoes end up rubbing and once that starts to happen I need some sort of friction block. I have tried those little invisible liners, but they don't help. Not substantial enough. I just have really bony and sensitive feet I guess.

Maya, have you tried the ones with pads? I wear almost nothing sockless, and I have the same problem with those insubstantial liners. I found some that have pads on the heel and the ball of the foot, and they are great. The pads also help the things actually stay on my foot. I think I bought them at NR, but if you want, I can check the brand name when I get home.

I usually wear them barefoot. I don't usually wear them in the winter but if i do want to or in the summer when it's really hot and i get sweaty feet I wear these http://www.marksandspencer.com.....n:61438031

You know, you're right - it's freezing here already (I live in MA) and the thought of not wearing socks is an unwelcome one. I think I'm just trying to follow the formulas a bit slavishly, without adapting them to my location and lifetstyle (as Angie encourages us to do). I'm just now finding my style voice, so when I see an outfit example posted, I tend to want to just substitute in like for like...I'm sure I'll get more comfortable with the process as I add quality pieces in to my wardrobe. :) Thanks for the input everyone!

As it happens, I had the last pair of these shoes in my size and they're marked up on one shoe, so back they go. I have a pair of 20-eyelet Docs coming soon - hope I have better luck with them - they're certainly more weather appropriate for the rainy, cold fall we're having here.

I live in Canada so it's too cold for ballet flats these days. I extended my wearing of them by a few weeks by wearing them with knee-high micro fishnet hose: kept my feet/ ankles slightly warmer.

Just thought I would post a link to this thread where Angie explains when it is appropriate to wear hosiery with flats, I hope it is useful
