I'd like to get a new bag for fall, perhaps at the NAS.

Right now, for winter, all I really have is a big computer tote from Danier in a sort of charcoal with an embossed snake look. (I.e. it is not snake print or variegated in any way -- just has the raised "scales" of snake in a charcoal colour.) It's a great bag, and extremely useful to me, but a bit on the dull side.

My coats are a red wool knee length funnel neck, a navy/ black colourblock military style peacoat, and a silver grey puffer coat.

Speaking theoretically, what colour might work best with this combination? Or with two of the above coats, perhaps? (I.e. it doesn't have to work with ALL, but should work well with more than one.)

Are you wanting the bag to blend with the coats or complement the coats? I could see either a dark silver metallic (like a pewter tone) or navy.

I'm not sure what your colours are, except for fuchsia & taupe, both of which would work btw. Burgundy but more plum like for you, fuchsia or taupe maybe?

My first thought was also something in the burgundy/eggplant family, Suz. It would look great with your peacoat and puffer. I also love the sound of cobalt. Teal or some kind of green could also be fab. Or something colour-blocked with cream in it, that always looks crisp.

Hmmmm, purple, the same value as your red coat? Do you want a solid or are you open to prints?

There is a color blocked Vince Camuto bag in the NAS catalog that looks very interesting.

If you want a stand out piece, cobalt could be great. If you want something more subdued, then I agree that cognac could be beautiful with the colors of your coats.

I thought you already have a cobalt bag, no? Are you going to use it in winter? It should work with all your coats and brighten our gloomy winter days.
Two of your coats are dark - why not try a bag in a light color? Angie is using white bags year round I think. That may be not very conventional but could be fun Maybe black and white or cream?
Other option is metallic: silver or pewter would look great with red and navy.
Snakeskin pattern can also work well and add texture to the outfit: my snakeskin tote was a real warkhorse for me!

I DO have a cobalt bag. I didn't think it would work with the winter colours. I will have to check!

I love the idea of black and white or cream. That would be amazing. I also like the thought of a metallic silver or pewter and snakeskin. I tried a snakeskin bag last year but alas, it didn't work for me -- wrong bag, is all.

Debbie, are you thinking of the VC or the Cole Haan? I was quite taken with the one that had fuchsia! But I didn't think it would work with the red coat so well.

Cognac would be a really interesting and great choice, and I might have more options in that colour as well. And Claire, with so much purple around this year, maybe that could be an option as well!

Well, it sounds as if I may come away with four or five bags instead of one, at this rate. That is why we love YLF!!

Maybe not 4 or 5 though, cause if you are like me, I get lazy with bags and end-up either making myself choose something different or just grabbing the usual black one in my haste.

I love the idea of winter white. I only worry about keeping it clean with all of the salt residue everywhere by January.

I do like the suggestion of cobalt but I am surprised that no one suggested red. My first though was a that red bag in a darker/deeper shade than your red coat would also go with the other coats.

Funnily enough, I like the idea of black for you, Suz. I know it's supposed to be boring, but it's still the epitome of sophisticated and would be a nice counterpoint for your reds, silver, colourblock - and also your cobalts and fuchsias.

Black is out, because the charcoal one really reads as black. Maybe in suede or patent it would make sense, but in regular leather it would be too similar to the dark charcoal one I already own.

Black and white or cream really appeals, Thistle, you raise a good point about dirt and salt. I think it would be okay, though. I can be pretty hard on shoes (I walk a lot) but even when I only wear one bag, I don't seem particularly hard on bags.

Cindy, a dark red would be lovely with the blue and the grey coats. So that is definitely a possibility. Ditto for eggplant or burgundy.

Suz, I think that "dark bags for winter only' rule is very outdated. If I can wear a cobalt coat in winter you surely can use a cobalt bag! I am using my tomato red one when I feel like brightening the day. I am also going to use my silver tote as well!
As fro the dirt and salt on a light bag - just wipe it every day and it should be fine.
