Baby Bootcut Solution: ETA Pics @ end

I had a pair of baby bootcuts that were PPL but never hung straight because they couldn't drape over my lowish heeled shoes or clogs; instead, they bunched over my instep. I just did a hack and will take them to Nordstrom tomorrow for hemming and will maybe sand the bottom of the hem when they are returned. Soon, I will have cropped flares!!! These babies flare just enough to be noticeable but not enough to create a horizontal line. And they look FABULOUS with my dark green higher shaft Dansko booties! Second best is last year's Sam Edelman sandals that wrap and tie above my ankles.

Well, I'm off to remove the 2" and 4" ink marks from my legs; I had to play around a bit to find my sweetest spot. My arches and ankles are very low (close to the ground) so I had to go closer to 4" despite having very short legs.

And now, I've started hacking my other pair of baby bootcuts -- the white ones. As long as I'm dropping off one pair of jeans for a hem, it's just as easy to drop off as second pair!

I hacked my baby bootcuts too for exactly the same reason! I went 2 inches above the ankle because I was worried that taking more would not leave enough "flare". But now I wonder if they are not short enough. I might have to have another go. I look forward to seeing yours!

Back in the day (the '80s?), I used to hem my pants at a slant. They need a certain drape to get that nice soft break.

Hacking off a pair of blue jeans and a pair of white jeans means I get to replace them with full length ones, right? Replacement blue jeans arrived today, and white ones are on their way. (Hangs head due to obsessive checking of Nordstrom Wish List.) At least they were on sale.

Karen13 - you just solved my problem! That slant hem is exactly what I need for my bootcuts too! I love bootcuts with flat boots and often struggle with the right drape...this angled hem will totally solve the problem. Thankyou!

I just got my first smart phone -- ever. It is not yet connected. Once I figure out how to use it, incl. taking pics, I will post my two hacks plus styling pics of my EF harems. It's a bit of a footwear challenge for all since I need high temps to wear sandals, and my most comfy footwear, clogs, are best hidden under hems.

DonnaF, can't wait to see your hack. This may be a solution to some bootcuts I bought that have distressing too far down the knee.

Maneera - I have put the slant hem on two pairs of pants now, and I really like it. Being 5'2", I like the lengthening look of "as long as I can go" at the heel, without the puddle on the break that I think makes me look shorter.

If you do it to a woven, and have a front back difference of more than 1/2" (I think mine was 3/4"), you probably need to make a slit in the front hem underside to make it lie flat. You have increased the circumference by adding the angle, if that makes sense. I did it to stretchy knit pants, so I could fudge it.

These are two pairs of baby bootcuts. Footwear: clogs, K-Swiss flatworms, and booties for the white pair & 2 different booties for the blue ones. The blk&cream Topshop ones I got today and am still deciding; green Danskos are here to stay. How do I get rid of the extraneous letters at the end? r the
