B-day present - plaid shirt dress

After thinking for a while what to get to myself for my b-day, I have picked this plaid shirt dress and really like it:

The boots are also new, a graduation present from a very special friend.

I will mostly wear the dress over skinnies/ponte pants; but I am curious if I can get away waring it this way, with boots only ( and maybe add tights) ? Or is it simply too short for that?

Many thanks!

Tanya, when is your birthday? Is it today?

"very special friend?" Sorry I'm nosey, hehe. Anyway, it is a little short, but I think you can get away with it with tights. The boots are FABULOUS. I thought they were mine at first :)

Nope, it is next week, the dress just arrived today.

You are too funny Maya, but it is a real friend ( the lovely person we are talking about is female).

The boots are very similar to yours, same color, same brand, just new version:

The design is slightly different, but more importantly, they are actually taller than yours, so they hit my leg at the right point, which is great, since I have been swooning over yours since our NY YLF meeting.

I noticed that Tanya (about the boots). I'm glad you found "your" version. What a wonderful friend to get them for you!

Looking at the dress again, it isn't too short but the way it curves makes it seem that way. I had a dress like that as well and decided to use it as a tunic. But I think it will definitely be fine with tights and as a tunic.

Tanya: the shirt and boots like isn't working for me. I think because of it's length and curve, it looks more like a top. I think it would look great with leggings or skinnies and then the boots.

And early fashion adoptor Tanya strikes again! I haven’t even blogged about this particular item in detail yet and here is our lovely Tanya sporting the look with style.

LOVE the tartan tunic! That’s what MOTG formula #9 is all about. I’d add leggings or tights, skinnies or Ponte pants to the mix just because I think it’s a little short on the curve of the hem. Add a lacy camisole for fun. Perfect for the lab.

What can I say, the boots are so KILLER I can barely stand it. You make me want to get a pair. I need your special friend to get me boots too :0)

Agreed..you sport this look in style.....Those boots...I'm dying here, those are just what I'm looking for in black...they look to fit your calf..may I ask your calf circum.?

You look fab as usual:)

What a fabulous dress and what a fabulous friend!

Taylor, Tanya's calves are 12 inches and I know yours are smaller, but these boots slouch so you should give them a bash.

I think that a slouch actually looks better on a skinney calf too. I am going to give them a "squizzie" (as You say)")
I Have breen looking at..."now hang on" , a flat or a small wedgie boot:)

Tanya, I love this plaid tunic on you! Seeing it on you makes me want to try it too (well, at least just try one on in a store). I haven't seen any, but then again, I haven't had the chance to go out and browse recently, either. I agree with the ladies above that it needs some tights or leggings, and pretty much echo exactly what Angie said. :D

Thank you all very much! You are absolutely right, it needs skinnies/leggings underneath.

Taylor, Angie is right, my calves are 12". The boots are a little bigger, but since they slouch it is not a problem. Give them a try! The leather is so soft!

Oh Tanya, thanks for the inspiration! I really want to put Angie's MOTG look #9 into practice, and you've just demonstrated it live. Thanks :)

Eek! I love both the boots and the tunic. I have been scouring for a plaid tunic, but I'm afraid it's just not meant to be for pregnant me. I will enjoy it on you.

I promise to wrote a post about plaid/checked/tartan tops next week!

Swooning over the boots. I love your tunic too!

Lovely boots and lovely tunic! I've been eyeing a Joie tunic as well, so it's neat to see it on you.

Looks great! I am looking forward to your outfits - I haven't fully wrapped my mind around it yet.
The boots look fantastic! Thanks for the info about the fit. If I go back to work, I am definitely getting them!

Fun! Happy birthday in advance, Tanya.

Both items are fabulous!

I loved the dress ! I dont think that it's too short to wear with tights. You can wear it with opaque tights and flats also it can look fab if you wear it with navy leggins and a light coloured boots to show itself

lovely! i have been rocking a lot of plaid lately and i can only hope i look as good as you doing it!

With legs like that, you better wear such cool dresses. I love it. You can pull of the length because you are still young. It will be perfect with tights, leggings or skinnies. I love the boots too.
